Louis Vuitton Utah Tattoo Néo Greenwich

While I was crushed to learn that some of my favorite Louis Vuitton men’s spring runway bags featuring the tattoo work of artist Scott Campbell didn’t make it to retail, at least the one that did make the cut is gorgeous! Too bad it’s completely out of my price range! Cast entirely in the supple Utah leather, Vuitton reworked its classic Greenwich shape (which I have in Damier) in an all-leather version that’s both masculine and fashion-forward without being too gimmicky. The amazing tattoo design makes this bag a real collector’s item; it’s made using a high-tech laser perforation technique. I love how discreet the LV is as Scott tattooed it on. It really adds a nice element of dimension to an otherwise simple bag. This one is a keeper folks!$7,150, available at select Louis Vuitton boutiques (866-VUITTON).

Art Deco can easily verge on tackiness–but not when it’s Chanel‘s take on the glamorous period. For its annual Metiers d’Art pre-fall show, Karl Lagerfeld turned to the region of Istanbul and deemed his rich collection “Paris-Byzance” after Coco Chanel’s love of exquisite Byzantine-style stonework jewelry. That rich notion translated beautifully into the bags that were recently previewed. I really love the classic 2.55 quilted bags and sister clutches that were adorned, seemingly haphazardly (but we all they weren’t), with stone and jeweled pieces. It definitely makes for a statement piece–but, above that, these bags are also pretty timeless and not one-seasonal. The other classic shape I liked a lot was the elegant geometric patterned 2.55 that featured intricate beading; it’s geared more for, in my opinion, a more mature woman–but it’s undeniably chic. The leather flap bag in mocha, meanwhile, with its leather knots, is a bit too Bottega Veneta-inspired for my liking.

Louis Vuitton Launching New Damier Infini Line

Some of you complain that my taste is too bland and boring. But there’s got to be a balance between a stark and minimalistic Valextra and this. I love the whimsical feel of adding feathers for flair but this bag looks like it swallowed a chicken. Then there is the braided trim, studs and that ginormous hardware. The designer should have called it quits somewhere before the rocker look turned into a full-on American Indian theme. This would have been more appropriate for the Fall season as an alternative to the cornucopia centerpiece. At Bergdorf Goodman for $795.

I haven’t been this excited about a new men’s Vuitton line since Damier Graphite was unveiled. While it isn’t exactly groundbreaking, Vuitton’s new Damier Infini collection, which will make its official debut at its men’s show in Paris on Thursday and hit store in mid-August, is exactly what I like to see from the masculine side of Vuitton: elegant, timeless and innovative pieces that focus on the brand’s core and don’t venture into kitsch. I haven’t touched the pieces yet but they’re promised to be super soft calfskin upon which the classic check print is embossed. To maintain a rigidity needed for this more serious collection, the interiors are reinforced and bonded. Did I mention how much I love structure in bags? The collection will launch with a few key styles, most notably the Keepall and the Porte-Document Voyage, not to mention a few wallets. I’m sure the Pegase will soon follow, as will a Porte-Document briefcase. And because the collection is all calfskin, I expect this to be one of the pricier men’s collections–far above the Damier Graphite.

Bags are the new dress!

This is one of the most creative uses of bags I have ever seen. Envirosax, designer of reusable bags, showed its latest creation by Amit Ayalon at Sundance Film Festival’s Alive! Expo Green Pavilion recently. There is a jacket, Victorian corset, back scroll piece, bustle and skirt– so creative and beautifully thought out! I’d wear this corset with jeans, I wonder if she’s taking orders. Check out Envirosax bags here.Amit Ayalon is from Tel Aviv, Israel and is a recent graduate of the Australian Institute of Creative Design. She said she was inspired by the gold and red colors which reminded her of Moulin Rouge fashion. Amit Ayalon is currently looking for career opportunities and can be reached via cell phone +61 404 545 704.

Man Snob: Ben Minkoff Bags for Men

Finally, a bag worthy for the man snob in your life! Does the name sound familiar? It should, it’s named after designer Rebecca Minkoff’s grandfather– Ben, who was a World War II fighter pilot. This rugged collection is inspired by the iconic military heritage of Ben Minkoff, yet still follows the elements of Rebecca’s uber popular namesake bag line. I can not tell you how often my guy friends complain about the lack of stylish, functional (and masculine!) man bags. The Gregger tote (above) is just the thing a man snob needs for work or play– structured with a soft edge, the elongated tote will hold files, MacBook and gym clothes if necessary. Love the well thought out front pocket– subtle details like the curved flap and straps add character as well as functionality. I hate sounding so crude but a bag like this could potentially land a man lots of hot dates– girls will love that you have good taste in bags and will flock to you, trust me on this!Seriously, what more can a man ask for in a bag? Check out Ben Minkoff Gregger Tote ($495) here

Reed Krakoff Inside Out Pebbled Leather Tote

Aside from her trusty Bottega Veneta tote, Jennifer Aniston is not much of a Bag Snob. She rarely, if ever, sports over-the-top accessories, preferring to keep her look sleek and minimal. But at last night’s “Just Go With It” premiere, the movie’s star turned out on the red carpet not only in a Dolce & Gabbana floorlength gown that ventured on sheer, but a oh-so-decadent custom grey alligator Burberry clutch to boot. At first glance, it’s a rather simplistic design: rectangular in shape, simple flapover closure (I suppose the fact that it’s alligator and a custom-made piece will just have to suffice). While I like the clutch wholeheartedly, I couldn’t help but think it was a bit too long for her frame–and the gown. I love the grey and black color combo, but the bag just looks a bit misproportioned for the occasion.

I can judge how well a bag is made by turning it inside out (always look for tight seams so the bag doesn’t lose shape or fall apart!) and I piss off a lot of SAs who don’t know me when I do this but I never buy a bag without looking at every centimeter, inside and out. Now if all bag interiors had the same impeccable stitching and finish as Reed Krakoff’s Inside Out bag, I would not need to do this! Okay so this bag isn’t really inside out but I like the concept– the exposed seams add an interesting detail and your usual interior pouch pocket is outside where you can reach it easily. Makes sense to me. I just with it was less boxy– at this size it looks kind of awkward when carried. What do you think of it? Reed Krakoff Inside Out Pebbled Leather Tote for $1,090

Yves Saint Laurent Y Cork And Patent-Leather Clutch: Uncork Spring

Nothing says springtime quite like cork. The beige color and wood texture makes me think of the days ahead when I will be able stroll outside without wearing a face mask and snow shoes. The days when I can get away with wearing a cardigan over a nice little romper and some open toed pumps while carrying this light weight little clutch that I don’t have to worry about fitting my gloves, hat, and snow boots in. Those glorious days in the future when I will pop my phone, money, lipstick, and Bubblicious in my bag and be on my merry way without fear that I may freeze to death in the occasional ice ball storm. Those days aren’t too far off, and when they get here, you will want to be prepared with the Yves Saint Laurent Y Cork And Patent-Leather Clutch. It’s chic with black shiny patent leather yet casual with cork, it will be a summer staple and it could be worn anywhere from a party by the beach to a black tie affair.Pick it up at Net-a-Porter for $550

Chanel Classic Bag In Galuchat and Jewelry-set Strass

I would feel like a prom queen every night of the week if I carried this clutch! I’m seeing pure retro glamour, thanks to the glossy stamped leather and gleaming “corsage” starburst – as no prom night ensemble would be complete without a corsage (and a tiara of course but I have that covered, I’ve been collecting and wearing tiaras for years). At first glance, it reads ultra-ornamental, but this bag is deceptively practical. Function is all in the details. At 9″ long, it’s a good-sized clutch, and with a leather shoulder strap on the detachable chain-link strap, it’s easy on bare shoulders. Savvy design and a wallop of whimsy – it’s the best of both worlds. Just keep your jewels minimal (very difficult for me as you all know I love sparkly stuff) and the rest of your look simple; you don’t want to look like you’re actually en route to junior prom.Marc Jacobs JJ Patent-Leather Corsage Clutch

I’m just doing a little birthday shopping for myself. It’s my birthday this week, and it is a big one. Can’t tell you exactly but you can guess cuz you know it ain’t 30! I want something big and important – like uhh…. a new car, a vacation home, a one year membership to JetSuite or an exotic Chanel!! I have never seen a stingray Chanel, and I’m told there is only ONE of these in the country, which gives it additional importance and desirability. The placement of the skin is perfection, the only way Chanel knows how to do it, the tail portion with the degrade is centered above the clasp. Stingray already has a sparkling star-like quality so it is sheer brilliance to set jewels in to enhance the celestial feel. This bag will set me back though, I can fly a private jet to NY twice, or get this. I think this has more longevity – call Chanel Beverly Hills 310.278.5055 for this Chanel Classic Bag In Galuchat and Jewelry-set Strass, $16,000.

Wall Street Journal: Revenge of the Heiress

Great article from Christina Binkley of the Wall Street Journal today on what she calls “the elegant and luxurious” Milan shows with a quote from me about bags. What were your favorite bags from the Milan runways? I’m ga ga for Gucci this season! Gucci went complete luxe with the re-vamped ‘Bardot’ (top handle bag seen in almost every look with spur closure hardware in semi oval GG) in a spectrum of exotic skins (croc, lizard, ostrich, & python). In addition, the iconic Jackie has been updated with an elongated shoulder strap (love the 70s feel to a long shoulder strap bag!). Fendi also delivered a variety of structured bags and clutches as did Prada and Jil Sander (one of the strongest bag collections from the brand we’ve seen). Fall 2011′s classic lady like silhouette, though structured, has a softness to them that is thoroughly modern.

Loewe, a Madrid-based brand founded in 1846, is considered the Hermès of Spain. Not too shabby! Spanish leathers are known to be some of the very best (Dior bags are constructed in Spain) and Loewe is no exception. We went crazy at their flagship Madrid boutique last year, picking up belts, bags and scarves. The quality is is exceptional and you don’t have to take a second mortgage on your home for indulgences. The bags of Loewe’s Paris show, heavy on boxy little leather suits, prim coats, and fluffy furs, were as high-gloss as the leather jackets. Three main shapes emerged, all based on a hard, square shape and most with small hand-held straps: A doctor bag style, in luxe suedes; a structured shoulder bag; and a boxy mini-tote. The spiffy stiffness of these styles is the antithesis of the slouchy hobo – not a hint of hippie-chic here. And despite some bold colors, part of Lowe’s appeal is in the lack of showiness. No imposing logos, just good, old-fashioned, European luxury.

My Five Essentials: Featuring Molly Sims

Our favorite Supermodel turned Jewelry Designer Molly Sims is also a major bag snob. Whether she’s sitting front row at fashion shows or working in her jewelry design studio, she is never without a fabulous bag! We are obsessed with her chic line of jewels, Grayce by Molly Sims, a sophisticated mix of classic and modern designs inspired by vintage jewels she has collected throughout her lifetime. I love wearing Grayce pieces to dress up my daily jeans and leather jacket uniform. If you have not seen the collection– you’re totally missing out. Check it out here! And read on for Molly’s five essential bags!ToteButtermilk Intrecciato Rete Nappa Tote ; Did someone say butter? I love this tote because it lives up to its name in buttery loveliness. This bag is perfect for spring and will take you all the way on through to Labor day! For me, I like totes that are versatile and this definitely scores a ten in that department. TravelArion Cabas; Travel for me 99% of the time equates to something work related. I always need a great sturdy bag as a carry-on to bring along my essentials (and then some). I love this Hermes bag as it is extremely well built and does not disappoint in the handsome department.Treasure/ExoticThe Satin Flower Knuckle box clutch is sleek and exotic with a touch of sass. This Alexander McQueen designed bag makes my heart skip a beat. A collector’s item in the making.TrendyNew Kristin leather Hobo; Leave it to Coach to always be on trend and classically chic. This is a great every day bag but can easily “keep up with the Joneses” in any venue.ClutchAnaleena oversized clutch, tan soft matt alligator; Love. Love. Love! This ultra sexy clutch is oversized without being more than a handful. Perfect for a night out or a red carpet event. I’ve definitely have used it for both! I adore this bag.

Valentino Fall 2011 Runway Bags: Girl, You’re a Woman Now…

If I were handing out awards for the most surprising and most improved bags (I think I should be!), Valentino would receive both trophies, hands down. Gone are the once-standard bows (better as dress adornments) and ruffles (more apropos on the coats). The bags have grown up and come into their own. In the place of girlish or lavish embellishments are sleek, chic bags of elegant proportion and style. While studs were the main course for some bags of previous seasons, they are now a side dish. A wise evolution. Ensembles like these – clean lines, frothy lace touches, fine fabrics and tall snakeskin boots – demand bags with close attention to detail that compliment and don’t overwhelm. Flat python wristlet bags were shown folded over as clutches or dangling freely as totes. Perfect for the urban sophisticate. Though they added quiet attitude, the color-blocked shoulder bags, in muted shades of both leather and exotics, were my favorites of the batch. Interest and excitement sans anything unnecessary. For Valentino, less is definitely more.

Tom Ford: Can You Afford the Ford?

Tom Ford. Two syllables, and so many words come to mind: words luxury, status, sleek, sex, provocation, et cetera. Now even lipstick and sunglasses have become synonymous with the Ford name, but not necessarily bags. But that doesn’t mean Ford isn’t currently serving up some decadently priced satchels. The gigantic zipper, present on all the bags (and some sweaters), is Ford’s signature. As with all luxury brands, you are, in part, paying for the name. At $3,990 for the leather version and a bananas $20,000 for the ostrich, you are almost desperately paying for the cache Ford has built. This style is reminiscent of his Yves Saint Laurent days but not as strong as, say, the Mombasa. Thick, sensuous leather unfortunately makes the bag extremely heavy. The oversized front flap has a zipper compartment, but it’s not too functional because if you fill it up, the bulk weighs the flap down. Similarly, the bottom also has a zipper, increasing girth – there for aesthetics, not extra room. But who says status symbols have to be practical? No iconic status here, but maybe that’s delivered in knowing you’ve got a lush piece of the Ford name to carry around.Pair with: Wear Alexander McQueen’s Engraved Leather Cage boots with one of these bags and announce to the world, “Function be damned! I’m too rich to move anyway!” On Net-a-Porter for $1,375.

Rihanna x Prada Natural City Calf Bag: Good Girl Gone Classic

As wild as Rihanna’s hair and wardrobe choices may be, she’s actually quite the traditionalist when it comes to bags (her mother obviously taught her well). Prada‘s Natural City calf bag is just the toned-down yet super-chic accessory for the young pop star’s flamboyant style. This Spring/Summer 2011 edition is the Prada I have known, loved, and carried since college: a deceptively simplistic design with plenty of details. They don’t jump out at you right away, but the subtle you discover daily as if it’s a brand new bag. While I prefer this buttery bag for day, RiRi paried it with loafers and a sweater dress for a casual night out, which works great as well. For Rihanna, such an understatedly polished look, especially juxtaposed against her striking flame locks, is almost as shocking as her pasties-and-blazer combo a couple years back. And if you ask me, undeniably more glamorous.Prada at Saks Fifth Avenue for $2,295

Marni Woven Leather and Raffia Tote: Black and White and Chic All Over

Precious. Sophisticated. Cutesy. That’s the Marni I have come to love and cherish, encompassed here in this bowler-shaped frame bag (though flatter than a traditional bowler). A twisted lady’s bag, it’s a classic purse with a delightfully dizzying black and white pattern. White raffia is woven with black leather, for the illusion of a peek-a-boo bag but with all the privacy you require. Yeah, yeah, you could wear it with black and white and that would be cool for a full-on checkerboard look, but I’d rather go nuts with this bag. Color-block, throw in big and bright solids, or mix patterns – a magical neutral like this stands on its own yet goes with everything. On Net-a-Porter for $2,015Pair with: A candy-pink jersey top with a hood for some slouch appeal is the unexpected top to go with an atypical satchel. At Diane von Furstenberg for $285.

These delightful totes from Jana Feifer will help you glide into the new season in trendy color-block style. They come in a variety of shades and would be the perfect accessory to grab when going to the beach, heading to the grocery store, or going on a shopping date with that one friend you have who always complains that she’s hungry, or she needs a tissue, or her feet hurt so she needs to change shoes. This sizeable tote will fit everything you need in it while keeping a cheery presence on your arm. Durable, practical, but much cuter than those re-usable shopping bags or (gasp) that plastic bag you stuff your sunscreen in before you head to the pool (we’ve all done it, but for goodness sake, make it stop), this bag is your answer to your spring/summer easy toting, no nonsense needs.Elyse Walker for $550

Vivyan Leather-Trimmed Canvas Tote: A Blank Canvas

The most remarkable aspect of this bag is that it is gravely different from Bally‘s usual slouchy-luxe and leather-centric designs. Dove-white canvas with a concise black leather trim is a crisp new direction for the label. Or maybe just a springtime anomaly. Verging on a paper grocery-bag shape, it’s sleek, conservative, and geometric – which makes me want to see how far I can push the styling with this number. I just don’t know how far I can stuff this alleged tote; a super-narrow bottom seam means an awkward shape if you put too much in it, and petite top handles also suggest light packing. A city version of the beach bag – Bally, I’m a little perplexed. In a good way. On Net-a-Porter for $750.Pair with: I can’t resist the urge to turn it up a few notches. A city version of the sandal in a high-octane shade does the trick. Diane von Furstenberg’s espadrilles in hot yellow are a prime example. Loud shoes and a quiet bag even out. On ShopBop for $255.

Le Petit Joueurs Lego Purse: Lego My Bag!

Congratulations to Kristen H., Milltown, NJ! Enjoy!!!We are sharing our love of the ultimate lux brand with yet another Chanel giveaway. That’s right, this month’s giveaway is an impeccable, vintage quilted chain-strap number, with estimated retail value of $1850, courtesy of Designer Social. Be a Designer Social Facebook fan by liking their page, as well as Bag Snob‘s page (but you already are, I’m sure!!) and make your April the month of the interlocked-Cs. Did you ever think scoring a classic Chanel bag would be this easy? If we didn’t snag this bag as this month’s giveaway, I would have jumped on it faster than you can say, “Timeless beauty”. Leave a comment and let us know you’ve liked both pages. That’s it! Sooo easy. One entry per person and US residents only.Thank you, Designer Social for sponsoring!!

A fine Italian leather bag adorned with a classic children’s toy. Hmm…Let’s file this one under: so weirdly kitsch it’s kind of cool. Le Petit Joueurs, meaning “little players,” is a line of bags designed by Mariasole Cecchi. She created her first bag with – you guessed it – a big box of Legos next to her, and she’s been expanding the concept since (you can also choose among a skewed leopard print and piano keyboard design). The make-no-mistake Piet Mondrian grid has been given a bizarre totally eighties twist via primary colored Legos. While it’s a surefire way to bring color-blocking into your bag wardrobe, as well as touches of the eternally inspirational painter, I’m not so sure this isn’t more slob than snob. The black suede bag is handmade in Cecchi’s hometown of Florence, so it’s a toy with real workmanship behind it. The question is: do you think the playthings should be left to the tots? On Aha Life for $995.Pair with: Only a fully-grown woman could truly pull off Vivienne Westwood, a designer who herself refuses to grow up. Her Red Label white seersucker-cotton dress is tailored for a lady but has apron-like touches that appeal to your inner child. On Net-a-Porter for $795.

Ask the Snob: Busy Mom Needs Chic Day Bag

Bag Snob,Please help with desired new spring bag. I want an everyday BIG bag that I can throw baby S’s crap in and is also chic. I want something light-looking and less money. Want style, but pacifiers and crayons do have to go in there along with my crap. Thoughts? From: iblondegirl (an attorney in NYC)Dear iblondegirl,This is a dilemma that I faced myself when my boy was a bit younger. Kids require you carry a vacation’s worth of stuff for a single errand. How could I schlep his sippy cups, snacks, toys, blanket, diapers, and so on, while still maintaining a bag with at least some sort of chicness? Having kids does not mean we’ve lost all sense of style – we may have lost our common sense and our memory, but vanity prevails no matter what! This is an instance when function and fashion must coexist, for the sake of your sanity and your style.Lanvin is a great choice for roomy, durable, and elegant. The “Lovely Leopold” tote is made of well-wearing black leather (hides those apple juice spills!) and has an optional shoulder strap.Michael Kors, Reed Krakoff, and Tory Burch (hers is scratch-proof!) versions are less expensive and all have very handy pockets for storing pacifiers and other comforts to hand your tot during a meltdown. Reed Krakoff’s bag has countless compartments and easy-access outer pockets to keep S’s and your belongings separate. I do prefer longer shoulder straps that leave your hands free to tote the tot or carry your to-go coffee, which Reed Krakoff’s is lacking – though it is by far the chicest tote. (Maybe fashion trumps function yet again!)Good luck and let me know what you choose!Lanvin “Lovely Leopold” Leather Tote On Net-a-Porter for $2,185.MICHAEL Michael Kors “Jet Set” Zip Top Tote At Michael Kors for $198.Reed Krakoff Leather Tote On Net-a-Porter for $890.Tory Burch “Robinson” Metallic Tote At Tory Burch for $550.

VBH on Moda Operandi: Python and Croco and Suede

Snobs, we’re not in Kansas anymore. Handbag wizard and Valentino veteran Vernon Bruce Hoeksema has presented us with yet another collection of lavish and quietly sophisticated bags, for the true discerning bag snob. Perusing VBH‘s flagship store in NYC is quite the experience in itself; located in a former landmark bank, the cathedral-high ceilings and lush yet homey atmosphere just emphasizes how regal these bags are.Bruce is meticulous when it comes to selecting skins and executing styles, and his attention to detail is felt in each and every one of his functional works of art. The “Brera” is a must-have for Fall, an iconic tote that – dare I say it? – rivals the Birkin. Multiple colors and skins (tomato red, royal blue or leopard sueded python, anyone?) are juxtaposed against shiny platinum hardware. As satisfying to eye as it is to the touch, this could be the one bag to take you through the season with panache. On days you crave something daintier, the “Prive Due G” purse is a light yet buttery marriage of nude crocodile and suede. With this on your arm, you could wear jeans and a T-shirt and still be the most elegant woman in any room. But the one that really calls my name? The sleek and chic “Manila” stretch clutch in blue slate crocodile. Alexander McQueen “Novak”: Mama’s Got a Semi-New Bag

The almost-iconic McQueen bag named after the famous blonde actress has been reissued, this time with greater commercial appeal. Thanks to deep tan and nude nubuck and a moderately altered shape, the “Novak” looks fresh again. It’s now more squared off, opposed to the original trapezoid shape, and the contrast of the curvy dark straps and the leather paneling, gives the bag a newly feminine, contoured shape – softer, less impactful, more unassuming. And no more turnlock closure – now just a simple magnetic fastening.A simple structured top handle with interesting details is easy for the masses to digest and this fluid new shape is just that. The original was a cult hit with the fashionistas, but it didn’t go further than their hands. Maybe this time the “Novak” will catch on with a broader audience. On Net-a-Porter for $1845.Pair with: A pair of Bottega Veneta peep-toe suede ankle boots with mass appeal that are universally flattering. Carlos Falchi “East-West” Tote: Python is Forever

The marriage of luscious and buttery python and a functional, toss-in-and-go tote makes me swoon. You just can’t go wrong with a bag this easy and dreamy – drawstring ties dress it down and means you can dash around town and believe it or not, you’re likely to end up using this on the regular. I have python this color, and it does not show as much dirt as you would expect.I’m not going to say Carlos Falchi’s classic tote will take the title as “Most Exciting Bag in the Closet,” but a classic is a classic! Leave your giddiness for trendy bags to the Frugal Snob prices. And if you get bored, just peek inside. The interior is lined in robin’s egg blue suede – so beautiful against soft yellow (and with two giant patch pockets for a phone and iPod – or for me, easy sunglasses storage – luxury equals convenience). Invest in a winner. Lust wears off, but love is forever, and this bag will love you back. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $2,995.Pair with: Classic doesn’t mean boring. For example, take Michael Kors’ twisted shirtdress, another closet staple you won’t know how you lived without. Michael Kors Twist Front Shirt Dress, $995.

Alexander McQueen “Oriental Samurai Skull” Silk-Satin Box Clutch: The Rise of the Samurai

Silly me. I thought I owned the most unique McQueen skull clutch around (rare metallic purple trimmed in violet South Sea pearls), but look what we have here! This has got to be the most unusual to date. A spiked-out helmet-wearing skull atop an ornate satin box clutch is borderline kitsch – but that’s a good thing. With such beautiful embroidery, it’s more high-art than oddball knickknack. Though that protruding, “don’t-mess-with-me” skull might cause concern as you navigate a crowded room – but who doesn’t want to carry a clutch that has your back? I can’t think of a better plus-one than a gleaming gold samurai buddy!A nod to the traditional Japanese fighter seems apropos at the time, as Japan is on our minds and in our hearts. Why not put some of their traditional flavor into your hands? On Net-a-Porter for $2,195.Pair with: You want to avoid looking like you’re wearing a costume, but you also need to give your bag some context. Zero + Maria Cornejo’s “Mackie” dress in woven jacquard has a loosely interpreted kimono silhouette and remains modern cocktail-ready. At Barneys New York for $820.

Tina’s favorite Musical: Phantom of the OperaTina’s Favorite Color: PinkYou’d think this god awful clutch would be perfect for me, wouldn’t you? Um, no. Unless the mask is removable, then maybe. You know, for nights when I don’t want to be recognized (especially after singing all my favorite holiday songs with the piano player at the Melrose Wednesday night– unsolicited by said piano player I should add. I may never show my face there again!). I have no idea what other purpose this face mask would serve on this other wise simple looking pink suede clutch. I believe the nose serves as the flap handle but still, puzzled about the masquerade mask choice as embellishment for a clutch. What do you think of it?Azzurra Gronchi $428.60.

‘Tis the season to be giving and we will have lots of bags to give away until Christmas! Kicking off the week is the Loewy bag from Be & D Resort 2011 collection. The winner will choose one of three bags above (priced from $998-$1095!)If you loved the style of the top handled convertible/messenger Genesis bag from Be & D but wished it were softer, smaller and more feminine, then you’ll love the new Lowey bag (ok, so it’s me I’m talking about but I can not win this bag so it’s best you pay attention). The timeless shoulder bag style is so much more ladylike but you still get the edgy whip stitched edge and industrial lock on the flap. Best of both worlds I say!How do you get your hands on one of the lovely bags above? It’s SO easy. Mulberry Bayswater- Shocking Pink

I will give you a moment to adjust your eyes.There. Better? If that isn’t the brightest colored bag you have ever seen in your entire life, I hope your eyes are okay. Introducing the shocking pink Mulberry Bayswater bag. I feel like even highlighter pink isn’t even bright enough to describe this bag. Call me crazy. Call me Paris Hilton. But I love this bag, which is odd, because normally I’m not particularly a pink accessories person. Though I wouldn’t recommend carrying this bag while wearing too many other colors, but this bag is a great accessory to have. Carried with a solid black outfit is sure to grab some attention. Picture it with slim leather pants and a chunky black sweater. Then BAM! This bright pink bag would definitely set you apart from the crowd. If you happen to actually be Paris Hilton (hey girl!), you probably could pull this off with a pink dress. Or even a red dress for Valentine’s Day! But if you aren’t Paris, go ahead and stick with neutrals. This bag is loud enough, your outfit can stay quiet, or even on mute.Available at Net-a-Porter

JET-SET from Perrin Paris

Looking for a special treasure to add to your bag collection? You need to know about the Jet Set clutch from Perrin Paris (thanks to a Twitter follower who showed the site to me!) made of delectable white crocodile. In an oversized style (31cm), it has a fitted strap handle that allows you to daintily carry it in your hand rather than clutching it with both arms or in the football hold. Best part about it is the interior organization– the clutch unzips all around and has multiple card slots plus a change pocket (tres adorable!). But I am worried about the functionality of a zip around clutch, when you need to get your lipstick you have to unzip and risk stuff falling out in the dark. So if you do go for it, know that this piece is best used when you won’t be needing anything inside. 12.2″ x 1.4″ x 6.3″ $1,850 at Perrin Paris 1893

Christian Louboutin Eden Vision Fur Ball Clutch

There is one more ornament for your tree that is a must this season. Louboutin’s Fur Ball doubles as a clutch when you need to head out to your next holiday party. I have been buying these cool ornaments for my tots that open up to reveal cookies or games but I didn’t think one could be a clutch, which makes perfect sense. Or does it? Yeah, I think you know the answer to that. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1395.The entire snob team would like to wish you the most joyous Christmas (or the holiday that you celebrate). Lots of love to all the snobs around the world!

Marni Pocketed Small Leather Bag

I always knew Jessica Alba was a bag fiend. Case in point: the “Little Fockers” star was spotted over Christmas carrying Viktor & Rolf’s brand new “Just in Case” bag in black leather. I like that Jessica opts for more indie, younger brands like Viktor & Rolf, not to mention Derek Lam and Proenza Schouler. Jessica’s version is simple; the natural grain calfskin is accented with gold details–I love the sturdy metal corners that help anchor the bag–and is quite utilitarian given the longer handles and the detachable shoulder strap.$1,095 Available at Code C, 8641 West Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA, 310 652 0200

Crossbody is my new best friend. I’ve got things to do and I cannot be slowed down with a heavy load on my arm. I have been using this Chanel small messenger my mom got me years ago, and I don’t want to sound ungrateful but it is from the collection with the giant white CC’s that wraps around the side. It is not only hideous but the most counterfeited Chanel style. Isn’t this Marni so much better? It’s got those open pockets for my phone – it’ll feed into my husbands biggest paranoia, he always thinks my phone is going to fall out of my bag or get swiped. But I live in LA where people do not get that close to each other and unless I do a headstand, I can’t conceive of how the phone will actually fall out. All I care about is easy access and no more missed calls. Most importantly, I got me a cute crossbody that will work with my daily runway of school drop off/pick up, coffee, farmers market, gym, lunch, Neiman Marcus (wow, is my life really that dull??). At Net-a-Porter for $965.

Nina Ricci Tiered Evening Bag: I Feel Pretty!

There are times in every girls life when you don’t want to be a Jessica Rabbit sex kitten, you don’t want to be Gaga edgy (though I am a little monster for life), and you don’t feel like wearing the same old black clutch for a special night out.Sometimes, you just want to feel pretty.Well Cinderella, grab your glass slippers and your pumpkin carriage (or taxi – less messy!) because the Nina Ricci Tiered Evening Bag is understated romance for today’s Disney Princess in hiding.I think this bag is just…. whimsical. It doesn’t have to cover itself in a trillion jewels or be a bright in your face “LOOK AT ME, I’M BEAUTIFUL!” color. The silk tiered ruffle beauty simply floats into a room on your arm, smiles politely, and sits delicately by your side, like a lady. One catch, you will have to shell out $1,850 for a slice of happily ever after. Pick it up at Barneys.

Vionnet Three Gusset Flap Shoulder Bag: Too Cool for School

What did you want-A bag that oozes class and is the perfect size for everyday that all your friends will “ooo” and “ahh” over? Well my friends, I give you the Vionnet Three Gusset Flap Shoulder Bag (and the crowd goes wild). This bag makes me want to put on a pair of fancy elbow length long gloves and have an electric cigarette (cause real ones are bad for you, kids) stuck in a long cigarette holder and march around in a faux fur coat looking like a boss. This bag is chic. It’s chic without trying. It is tastefully simple, and doesn’t need to shout its awesomeness. Because when you’re this cool, you don’t need to go around telling people.Being this cool will cost you however, it’s at Saks for $2,080. That’s a little too cool for my comfort, and my wallet.

Jerome Dreyfuss Twee Mini

Bag Snob Tina once tweeted that leopard print is a neutral. I am going to go ahead and consider her an expert on this. So I wholeheartedly agree, but I don’t know that this Jerome Dreyfuss leopard print calf hair bag is the right “neutral” for me. Though it looks slightly diaper-bag-ish, I also feel like you could put two, long and skinny straps on it and wear it as a mini, furry backpack and pretend it’s 1998. I was a huge fan of furry leopard mini-backpacks then, yet now, I’ll stick with a more classic, leopard look. What do you think?Available at Net-a-Porter

3.1 Phillip Lim Berry Wristlet with Studs

I was about to write this off as another useless trendy thing until I saw the interior. Wow! So well thought out and functional. My friend Jane Aldridge told me she can not be bothered with carrying bags cuz it will slow her down (yes I was distraught to hear this and determined to convert her into a bag snob!). This is so perfect for her– she can strap it to her wrist when she attends concerts or use it when we meet for our regular lunch and shop dates. One side fits credit cards and cash, the other side a cell phone (what else does a girl need?!) But the best part is the cone studs– it will keep her safe should she need to use it as a weapon. * 3.5″H x 5″L 3.1 Phillip Lim Berry Wristlet with Studs $350

Chanel Pre-Fall 2011

This one is a keeper folks!$7,150, available at select Louis Vuitton boutiques (866-VUITTON)

Sammy Handmade In Ethiopia Aster Wallet: A Feel Good/Look Good Purchase

Oh, hello, cutest wallet ever. Some may find a colorful, embroidered beaded wallet juvenile or even silly, but not me. I would carry my lunch money in it any day of the week. These little guys have a top zip, beaded zipper pull and all different kinds of embroidery with two open compartments and one zipper pocket inside. It is sizeable, easy to carry and really shows not only are you never to old to have fun, but you are also smart and sensible to keep your pennies nice and safe. What really makes this product special is the brand. It is a luxury ethical accessory label from Ethiopia that works with a co-op of Ethiopian women as a way to help poor families that were affected by AIDS. 100 women were trained in embroidery and other hand-crafts are now able to earn a living. To learn more about the brand and pick up a wallet for $165 visit Barneys.

Jil Sander Contrast Fold Flap Small Leather Hobo: Don’t

At first glance, this bag is like a modern day woman; chic, smooth, put together, and nonchalantly sexy. By day, it gets the job done, holds everything it needs to and serves for multiple purposes. It is a good size so you can fit everything you need on a daily basis, and it looks good with almost everything. Then, when you lease expect it, you open the flap and it throws you a curve ball. The contrast of the white is what sold me on this. It is so unexpected and awesome and it really makes the bag pop. This is one way to jazz up an everyday black bag and make it unique, interesting and sexy.Much like a woman, there is more to the Jil Sander leather hobo that meets the eye.$975 at Saks.

Bottega Veneta Large Fringe Tote

If you don’t care about price or dirt, this would be the most amazing summer bag of all time. A bit of fringe for a laid-back relaxed feel and a whole lotta room so you can be ready for beach, pool, picnic or weekend trip. I love the cabat and have been eying it for years but I always yearn for it to have something more, it just looks too much like a flower basket. Somehow just the bit of frayed trim does it for me! If the white is scaring you, there are 2 things – it comes in black, OR you might find comfort in a detachable interior that’s washable. Well, that second thing does nothing for the dirt that will inevitable appear on the stark pristine white exterior. Still, I am in love. Bergdorf Goodman for $2650.

Roger Vivier Metro Bag

If you are looking for a beautifully tailored bag that will take you anywhere, Roger Vivier‘s Metro bag is it! Clean lines with chic modern details, a Vivier bag transcends time and fashion trends. Whether it be 1960 or 2011, Vivier bags always look current and relevant. There are several sizes in the Metro and since I’m all about the cross body bag right now (I just love having my hands free while shopping, traveling or doing my daily errands)– I’m dying for this little gray python number (Micro Metro $1,725)! The new shoulder style Metro “Lacy” bag is great, too. Think of it as a contemporary alternative to the classic Chanel bag– sophisticated without any pretensions, it’s a bag that you will not tire of! For spring, the Metro it comes in three colors– the brown colored, a dark chocolate and a burnt orange ($2,395). I love that Bruno Frisoni has stayed true to Vivier’s vision while adding his own edgy flair (I hung out with him in Taipei a couple of years ago and he is one of the most fun and charismatic people you’ll ever meet!). And I mean it, my next bag purchase will be that Micro Mini! What about you? How do you feel about Roger Vivier bags?Roger Vivier online.

Frugal Snob: Simply Vera by Vera Wang

I love what Vera Wang is doing with the Simply Vera line at Kohl’s– it’s an opportunity for many bag snobs on a budget to own designer bags without resorting to knock offs. The pleated cross body bag (10.75″ x 5.5″) is one of the best I’ve seen at this price point and I have looked everywhere! It is available in a variety of yummy colors (blue for me please) in a cool crinkly material and the chain is easily tucked in if you’d like to use it as a clutch. I’ve bought Simply Vera bags in the past and the quality is not bad– it’s not the finest leathers but it also doesn’t cost an arm or a leg.Was $59 now $35.40

Alexander McQueen Croc-Print Clutch at The Outnet!

Today’s theme is patent crocodile. Donna Karan is giving one away but if you can’t wait until March 17th to find out if you won– The Outnet has a sweet clutch from Alexander McQueen in croc-print patent leather for a mere $427.50 (55% off– I think it’s reasonable but I have friends who refuse to spend on clutches). I have always loved this shape, the bow is glamorous but also functional as the slim shape and curved bow shape allows you to hold it in your hands comfortably. Granted you can not fit very much but what do you need for a night out? Your cell, a credit card, a lip gloss and you’re set.The bag event at The Outnet just started yesterday, you better get over there quickly– it’s not too late to get a new bag or two for fashion week! Victoria Beckham Fall 2011

“Structured will always exist in my handbag line, but I felt it was the right time to add some volume while softening the silhouettes,” Victoria Beckham told Bag Snob following her fall show. “I think women want to be confident and comfortable with their clothes AND bags.” This season, along with the easier shapes, Beckham developed her bag line to include practical-looking duffels and totes, but done in super soft cashmere and leather. My favorite piece from the collection is an over-the-shoulder duffel that has a nomadic vibe to it–if you’re version of wandering the lands is covered in suede. The new shopper tote maintains a somewhat rigid shape but gently expands out to increase volume. And while I admit I like her first season structured bags more, these, judging by retailers’ reported 100 percent sell-throughs, will be a big hit.

Wall Street Journal Blog: Bag Snob Weighs In on Fashion Week

Read what Kelly and Tina have to say about the Fall 2011 collections Of all the snobs who roamed Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week, we are partial to Kelly Cook and Tina Craig, the pair are behind the blog family Snob Global Media.Originating in 2005 with Bag Snob, a website serving up designer handbag reviews, the pair has since expanded their reach to include clothes, beauty, jewelry, shoes and more.Ms. Cook and Ms. Craig saw nearly every catwalk this week, closely eyeing every facet of the collections. We asked them for their take on the clothes–and of course, the bags.Edited excerpts:WSJ HEARD ON THE RUNWAY: What was your favorite show of the week?Tina: Derek Lam. It’s just so wearable. There’s drama but it’s not like, “Oh my gosh, I can’t wear that in my real life.” There are great little jackets, there’s fur. It’s just easy, it’s casual, it’s chic.Kelly: You come to the shows and you are looking for drama. There’s not a lot of drama this season. Thakoon was drama in the sense that everything is really showy but not very wearable. DVF was very, very different. They threw away all their patterns and they had these gaucho type loose tops, kimono style. Cool jump suits and a lot of separates. For once, it wasn’t all about the print, it was about the cut, the fabric.WSJ: Did anything surprise you this week?Kelly: This puffer jacket gown at Thakoon–red and blue plaid, like a big puffer jacket, but it was a full-length gown. It’s showy. It’s good for the runway. WSJ: What were your favorite handbags?Tina: It’s all about art deco for Ralph Lauren. Sick. It was like 1920s Shanghai at the height of its glamour, that’s what the collection was to me. A lot of jade and appliqués. Beautiful. The attention to detail on the bags–I have not seen that in a long time, not from American designers. It’s going to change the scope of his accessory business.Kelly: I’m interested to see the prices. It seems like their bags are a little bit out of reach for most people and it would be nice to have a nicer price point so that it’s accessible.WSJ: What style of bag do you think is hot for fall?Kelly: It’s all about the messengers. Everybody needs to get themselves a nice messenger. Not only is it practical, it’s very chic.WSJ: What tips do you have for WSJ readers on buying a bag?Tina: If you live in a city like New York or Chicago, you should go shopping for your shoulder bag in your heaviest coat. Usually, you buy a great bag wearing a little dress and then the winter comes and it doesn’t stay on over your coat. Also, wear a tank top under the coat, so you can take it off so you can make sure the shoulder strap doesn’t hurt your shoulder.

Marc Jacobs JJ Patent-Leather Corsage Clutch (Prom Queen Worthy)

Tod’s Fall 2011 Bags: The Lady Goes Downtown

Tod’s is known for impeccable workmanship and quality leathers (hand stitched, suede driving loafers, anyone?), but I would never have called it cutting-edge or hip ten years ago. Enter American designer Derek Lam, named creative director in 2006, who single-handedly changed the landscape of the Italian luxury brand. He has merged Tod’s classic appeal with a needed youthful vibe. As we have already been observing, Fall 2011 is all about structured ladylike bags, and Tod’s versions get it just right. Color and lightheartedness are infused with the best skins available to offer pristine structure and intriguing combinations (wristlet clutch in canary yellow lizard and slate gray python is a winning combo in my book!). And the drool worthy camel crocodile shoulder bag, Lam’s take on what a luxury brand customer desires, is “witty, unpretentious, and stand for the heritage of a beautifully made product.” I would say that Derek Lam knows a thing or two of what bag snobs want, and Tod’s Fall 2011 bags are exactly it.

Prada Fall 2011

What was odd about Miuccia’s runway show Thursday was that, despite proclaiming a new girlish innocence for her woman, the models encapsulating this aura seemed filled with anxiety. No more was that more evident than in the way they clutched and almost manhandled their bags. Rush, rush, rush they did down the runway. The bag shapes are petite, soft and malleable and plenty roomy for fall. Like the clothes, they have a somewhat sixties Mod vibe to them–note the oversized buckles and leather handle pieces. Again, my overall conclusion is one of disappointment with this bag collection. It’s been a long time since a Prada bag collection has bowled me over; will this dry spell ever end?

Lanvin Fall 2011 Bags

Exuding pure and timeless glamour, Lanvin’s women looked as though they stepped out of a noir thriller– mysterious femme fatales with sexy secrets to keep. Their bags generally were the most straightforward aspect of their looks (eye-obscuring, wide-brimmed hats and cape-like coats, anyone?). One luxe, ladylike, structured handbag appeared after another. Boxier than most as of late, they directly matched the palette of the clothing, in neutral colors– mink brown, inky gray, and honeyed camel. The sensational, sparkly clutches, on the other hand, were little bejeweled treasures worthy of a fairy tale. If you’re going to glitter, do it in Lanvin. Either way, sharp brown leather or encrusted with crystals, Elbaz is a genius who knows what women want in their opera-gloved hands. (Love him, he is the joyful master oozing with love, not hate!)

Etro Suede and Snakeskin Clutch: Etro Brings Retro

I have been on a vintage binge lately and when I first saw this Etro clutch I did a double take and had to make sure I was indeed and not a vintage site. This is, without a doubt, one of the most interesting bags I have seen in a long time (and if you knew how many bags I look at weekly you’d tell me to give myself a raise). The vintage-inspired, bold graphic print is a tad psychedelic, with a kind of Jimi Hendrix rocker vibe. Most of all, with scalloped edges and multiple colors framing the snakeskin panel, it is eye-catching. The mix of python and suede screams luxury, the color combination is retro yet modern, and even the chain strap is an unusually sleek shape. At 9″ wide it will actually fit more than a credit card and cell phone. I could see hot model Abbey Lee Kershaw, who exudes flower-child chic, rocking this with a long dress, fur jacket, and eclectic jewels. On Net-A-Porter for $1,350.Pair with: The Tribal Spike Cuff by au courant designer Pamela Love matches the clutch’s funkiness and wild, curvy shapes. Don’t be afraid – this piece demands a daring bracelet. On Ssense for $645.

DKNY Fall 2011 Runway Bags: Color Me Mod

The DKNY girl is on top of the trends, and for this collection, edgier than the brand’s shows of late and appropriately nicknamed “New York Mods,” she proved she’s even ahead of the curve. For fall, this savvy shopper is all about color. Pinks and reds clashed in a most agreeable manner and were accompanied by multihued bags (one in black, blue, and tomato stood out). Whether it is a neon sweater with contrasting clutch or a pair of bold red pants with a complimentary color-blocked clutch, she is ready and willing to go for it.Bags, small and compact, were accessorized with large tassel charms – bestowing a dose of attitude – and convenient bands for hand support. Glossy, dark blue fingernails matched the navy-centric clutches, while fresh white manicures offset the brights and blacks. This new mod knows how to incorporate the latest runway looks into her everyday wardrobe, without breaking the bank and with stylish nails to match. Can’t wait for fall? Check out current season goodies m now. We are collaborating with DKNY on an exciting project to be announced soon. Stay tuned!

Marc Jacobs Baroque Quilting Minetta Shoulder Bag: The Classic Chanel

This is the Chanel bag for the younger set (as in you baby bag snobs born around 1990). You get the quilted leather and chain-strapped elegance of La Chanel, without going all out. Not that this isn’t a truly luxurious piece. The golden hammered hardware is eye-catching, while soft taupe leather is neutral and easy – and dark enough that it can take a bit of a beating without automatically appearing shabby. The pair of handheld and shoulder-strap handles is much appreciated. I am loving all the optional top handles on bags lately! They seem to be ubiquitous. Designers have learned that a girl needs her options. As far as options go, this bag is one every young lady should have in her collection. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,295.Pair with: The name of these shorts says it all. Bec & Bridge’s “Wild & Free” high-waisted, zebra-print, modified culottes are for the young at heart and firm of thigh. On ShopBop for $180.

Stella McCartney Soft Raffia Iris Shoulder Bag: A Pure Spring Bag, for the Pure-Hearted Animal Lover

A bag that is both PETA- and Bag Snob-approved does not come along often. While it can be hard to reconcile spending a solid chunk of change on bag that involves only faux leather, Stella McCartney‘s Iris bag is so pristine and sophisticated that I can’t resist. Yet another example of color-blocking with muted shades, the tan trim (in mock vachetta leather) makes the raffia center, a refreshing white, snap in a way that’s pleasingly geometric. The buckle, on the adjustable shoulder strap, and trademark Stella plate offset the chasteness of the bag, adding just enough interest. Natalie Portman will be very happy (though I’m not sure how well it will function as a diaper bag). Sleek and refined, plus cruelty-free. Vegans – and snobs – rejoice! At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1045.Pair with: Keep it clean and modern with Gianvito Rossi’s beige leather open-toe clogs. And you get your true leather fix. Sorry, Stella! At Montaigne Market for $653.

Barbara Bui Jules Messenger Bag

Every neutral ensemble should integrate a splash of color, so why shouldn’t your bag? Barbara Bui’s lovely suede shoulder bag has a slouchy feel and a couple of colorful surprises – a pop of purple suede trim on the internal side zip pocket and dusty-rose satin lining. While it’s not technically a messenger since it doesn’t go cross-body, the “Jules” makes up for practicality with fabulous internal organization (three compartments in all with the center zipper).Actually, this bag has more flair than it should: the big tassel is a bit too much for me, tipping the balance of a perfectly minimal style. Luckily, it comes off, along with the dog tag – not a huge distraction but I’d probably remove them both. Details abound, and my favorite is the flat’s leather trim with turn-lock closure. A go-with-everything piece, but – hate to say it – that suede is not going to wear well. Barbara BuiJules Messenger Bag On FarFetch for $1060.Pair with: A neutral shoe with hot details, too. Lanvin’s halter slice calfskin wedge ($1,415) has touches of woven brown grosgrain and an angled wooden panel on the heel.

Delvaux Givry MM Shoulder Bag: Solid Gold Oldie

If you use the words “demure” and “classic” to describe your personal style, I challenge you to find a more appropriate bag. Delvaux has been making leather goods for nearly 200 years (since 1829, to be precise), and no one does quintessential quiet luxury like them. So many designers claim not to care about trends; always-timeless Delvaux has a proven track record that they genuinely don’t. A bag of theirs is like a natural beauty who doesn’t rely on makeup: everyone wants to look like her, and no one can quite fake it. This belle of a bag, in santiag polo leather, has an element of surprise: it’s actually a double foldover, so your stuff stays secure when the buckle is undone. Good thing because threading that tab every time I want to reach for something would get on my nerves. And the venerable label has kept up with the times – the Basane leather inside comes with a cell phone pocket. All that, plus a super-adjustable strap, so you can have the bag flirt at your side or hips, depending on mood and need. A natural beauty that’s easy to work with – how rare is that? At Barneys New York for $2,075.Pair with: What would be better than a Dior dress? A leafy jungle print and bold colors on cotton poplin will make that white leather go “snap!” At Saks Fifth Avenue for $2,300.

Osklen for Runway to Green Salmon-Skin Mini Tote: Onwards and Upstream

Did you ever think you could have your sushi and eat it, too? With rising costs of python and crocodiles, fish skin is rapidly becoming a shoe-and-bag favorite for designers: Emporio Armani has used tilapia, Dolce & Gabbana toyed with marine eel, and Derek Lam‘s Fall 2011 accessories collection welcomed perch-skin.Osklen takes eco-efficiency to another level with their tasteful salmon-skin tote; shockingly sleek and dark-chocolate, it resembles water snake. I like it even more with a portion of the proceeds going to Runway to Green, a fundraising organization that collaborates with designers to benefit the environment.Runway to Green and Vogue rolled out the green carpet for their “A Bid to Save the Earth” second annual party on March 29th. Christie’s Auction House hosted fashion’s in-crowd for a runway show (Jason Wu, Yves Saint Laurent, Thakoon, Gucci, and others showed pieces available for immediate purchase) and a live auction. Even if you missed the party, you can still be part of the eco-friendly fashion movement by carrying Osklen’s uncommon bag. On Net-a-Porter for $970.Pair with: Be eco from tote-to-toe with Stella McCartney’s buckled faux-leather sandals, in deep burgundy with a cork heel. On Net-a-Porter for $795.

My Five Essentials: Iman

When a legendary supermodel invites you to dinner, you don’t refuse. You drop whatever you’re doing, strap on your highest pair of heels, hop in a cab, and show up, pronto. No questions asked. That’s exactly what I did on a recent evening in New York City, when I received this text from a friend: “Iman would like you to join us for dinner.”I was elated to discover she is a MAJOR bag snob: her insane collection includes the Hermès Kelly and one-of-a-kind pieces by friends Karl, Paloma, and Thierry (yes that would be Lagerfeld, Picasso and Mugler). She keeps most of her clothes with a service that cleans, maintains, and delivers when she needs them. But her bags and shoes? They stay safe in her closet! As Iman often tells her hubby David (as in Bowie), “I need to see my bags before I decide what I’m going to wear!” Hey, that’s how I get dressed, as well; Iman and I have so much in common! My instant BFF elaborated, “I read Bag Snob every day. When I discovered you, I thought I knew everything about bags and had seen it all. But you always surprise me and tempt me with new bags I didn’t know I needed!”Iman even developed her own line of bags with HSN, Iman Global Chic, because she wants to give women the opportunity to buy snob bags at an affordable price point. The bags are known to sell out like crazy – that’s 75,000 bags each time she appears on HSN!Read on for the iconic model, wife, mother, entrepreneur, and bag snob’s Five Essentials:Iman Global Chic tote bag “If you’re a mom like me, you know that having one purse that’s small enough to carry everywhere yet roomy enough to pack the essentials is a necessity. This style comes in a variety of chic colors and works with every outfit.”Iman Global Chic travel bag. “As a model and businesswoman, I am constantly traveling. Whether it’s on a short flight to Florida where I film my HSN Global Chic appearances or around the globe. Having a reliable and fashionable travel tote that fits in an overhead compartment makes my life so much easier – this style is one of my favorites and a must-have when I’m on-the-go.”Hermes Kelly Crocodile bag: “This is more than a bag…it’s a true treasure and the first gift my husband bought me on my first birthday that we were together in Paris in 1991.”Iman Global Chic trend bag: “I’m a big believer in embracing trends at the right price point – this faux snakeskin shoulder bag is fun, flirty, feminine, colorful, right on Spring trend and (the best part?) it’s just $24.”Paloma Picasso: “I love this unusual vintage Paloma Picasso evening bag – there’s nothing better than using a handbag to transition an ordinary outfit into something extraordinary. This is wearable art and I absolutely love it.”From left: Nicholas Rytting (General Manager of The Box and the Snob Gusband), Iman, and moi at dinner at Waverly Inn.

VBH on Moda Operandi: Python and Croco and Suede – Oh, My!

VBH is most known for their envelope clutches, and with architectural lines and elegant personality to spare, this bag makes me crazy.Moda Operandi is offering a VBH Fall 2011 trunk show, so you can get the insider jump on the fall collection. Online for three days only (ending April 13th)! Make a 50% deposit now, and the balance is due upon the delivery of goods (Don’t ya just love the layaway plan?!). Elie Tahari “Maggie” Clutch: Proves Nude’s Not Lewd

A crisp little clutch that’s the color of a sandy beach: fab for vacationing or second best, just pretending to be on vacation locally. Sometimes you want a bag without a hint of vulgarity or drama. While this Elie Tahari bag is seductively nude, it’s as pure and clean as they come. I love how it’s not junked up with hardware – just bare bones leather-trimmed raffia with a simple tab closure. Feel free to accessorize to your heart’s content and add some weight to your look via heavy metal rings and bracelets. Concise and subdued, it’s just the thing for jeweled hands to carry on ladies lunch dates and summer night dates. Just change your garb accordingly and the bag will follow suit. On ShopBop for $348.Pair with: An ornate statement necklace brings the drama, and the sand-and-sea palette of fossilized agate and azure stones is in keeping with your naturalistic motif. Judy Geib “Charm of the Unexpected” Necklace, $9,200.

Bottega Veneta Grey Striped Messenger Bag: Laid Back Luxury

I’m a huge fan of this relaxed, easy, breezy bag. The Bottega Veneta grey striped messenger is effortlessly chic with soft grey suede in a laid back slouch. The stripes bring a summertime feel to it and will allow you to dress it down with a bright yellow romper and some flats or play it up with some skinnies, red pumps and white button down. Bags like these give off the vibe that you obviously have great taste, but don’t always need a bag to jump off your arm and slap someone with its style, shape or color. Simple yet classy, this bag will take you into summer with swagger.Elyse Walker for $1,950

White or brown look equally good with your updated bag.Bottega Veneta Open Toe Ankle Boot, $740.

VBH : The LRB

That’s right: the Little Red Bag. Sometimes, the bag justifies the night. There are some wardrobe acquisitions that give you reason enough to get your girls together and plan an evening out on the town, braving the Saturday crowds and all. This petite-chic VBH shoulder bag (a diminutive 6″ wide) is adorable to tote on an evening out. Polished hardware dresses it up even more and a both adjustable and convertible strap means you can tailor your satchel to your dance moves; make it a crossbody when you really want to get down. The new disco bag motivates you to pack light – all you require are a credit card, some cash, and your cell. So make sure your makeup is impeccable and hit the road! With impeccable stitching and leatherwork, clean lines, and a sleek shape, it’s a small sacrifice to make to the handbag gods. $1,495 at FortyFiveTen- call 214-559-4510 to order!Pair with: Nothing goes with a little red bag like massive white heels – Alexander McQueen‘s in python and gold studs will put you in the spotlight all night long. Your friends might be so jealous they’ll wish they just stayed home! Alexander McQueen Cut-Out Python Booties, $2,150.

Barneys New York Strapped Tote: Black and Blue and Carried All Over

Barneys’ private label is totally giving snob-worthy designers a run for their money! I have to hand it to them – or just put this concisely chic bag in my hands, stat. Bringing depth and shape, the interlocking straps make me interested in this leather tote; so does the pairing of navy blue and black, which is so smart and modern. A traditional bag that goes against the rules: its hushed rebellion isn’t only in the color scheme. A square tote is a needed twist on the typical shape (vertical totes match your form and don’t play with it), and sometimes that’s the only design detail a bag requires. This is easy and low-maintenance – chuck all your stuff in and bring on the patterns, brights, and even the dirt. This tote can take it all. At Barneys New York for $750.Pair with: Fuchsia-pink is a risky shoe choice, but when you’re carrying a repressed-toned bag and they’re flat and unembellished like Belle Sigerson Morrison’s pointy-toed suede flats, you should go for it. On Net-a-Porter for $195.

Dsquared2 “Portland” Envelope Clutch, Yves Saint Laurent “Y” Clutch, and Alexander Wang “Jade” Trunk Wristlet: Squaring Off

Haven’t you heard that it’s hip to be square? These three sharp-edged little bags prove angular is where it’s at when it comes to of-the-moment clutches. The keen lines and cool stiffness of Dsquared2′s lush chestnut envelope (crisply business-appropriate), Yves Saint Laurent’s sunlit metallic bronze clutch (to bring even more heat to summer nights), and Alexander Wang’s funky stingray and rose-gold box (heavy on hardware, easy on the eyes) prove petite clutches don’t have to be fussy or feminine. Instead, these will put a touch of tough-girl chic right into your hands. Just don’t overdue your sharp shapes and wear your square with soft and loose palazzo pants to juxtapose the look.Dsquared2 “Portland” Envelope Clutch On Ssense for $715.Yves Saint Laurent “Y” Clutch On Ssense for $695.Alexander Wang “Jade” Trunk Wristlet On Ssense for $795.Pair with: Lover’s high-waisted ivory twill pant, Altuzarra’s navy trouser, and Opening Ceremony’s pleated embroidered silk pair all have fluid lines and the pillowy shape these hard-cornered bags call for.Lover High-Waisted Twill Wide-Leg Pants On Net-a-Porter for $370.

Botkier “Isla” Shoulder Bag: La Isla Bonita

Here we have your quintessential everyday shoulder satchel with enough subtle highlights to make it anything but typical. Just look closely and you’ll see what I mean. The wrinkled leather has a hint of metallic sheen to it, for a delicate sparkle that catches both the light and your eyes. With an extremely flat silhouette, it hangs attractively on your side, rather than protruding bulbously, and there’s major attention to organization inside: a center zip compartment gives the interior two sections and there are countless pockets all inside the lining for all your little things. The focal point? I probably don’t have to tell you it’s the keyhole cutout serving as the button tab closure – finishing this bag off with the interests it needs. On ShopBopfor $395.Pair with: Multiple braided straps and buckles elevate a strappy shoe to a high point of outfit intrigue. Sigerson Morrison’s teeny wedge is fresh take on the everyday gladiator sandal. At Barneys New York for $475.

Bally Canvas and Leather Shoulder Bag

Sometimes, a girl just needs simplicity in her life. A canvas bag with leather trim, and all the organization one needs to feel in control, can be quite a powerful thing. You will not be making any fashion statements here but that is not the day you use this. The always refreshing combo of natural canvas and leather sets the calm mood for hectic days – either travel or maybe just a day filled with annoying errands can be done with effortless style. Take the strap off and you have a summer clutch, what can be easier than that? Those interior pockets are seriously the bomb, they look really cool set against such a slim bag. At Luisaviaroma $861.

Milla Jovovich in Sergio Rossi

Cannes Film Festival is like the 12 days of Christmas for the fashion industry. Each day, a parade of primped and coiffed celebs glide down the runway (I mean red carpet) offering plenty of fodder for gawkers and fashion bloggers alike.I only comment on the stand outs and today, Milla Jovovich caught my eye in an unexpected color-blocked gown from Prada. Even more intriguing, however, was the minaudiere dangling from her shoulder from Sergio Rossi. I love the long shoulder/crossbody chain trend on the red carpet– it allows one a nonchalant and elegant pose, unlike posing with a clutch (there is the football hold, the clutch it like a baby stance or dangle gingerly from your fingers– I have tried all three and trust me, equally awkward). This stunner is from Sergio Rossi‘s “Red Carpet Limited Edition Minaudiere” in Red Satin trimmed with Swarovski Crystal Butterfly Trim. Add flawless hair, bold red lips and we have a 10+ red carpet look in my book. What do you think of the look?

Tory Burch Synthetic Straw Shoulder Bag: Grasping at Straws

Think of summer and what comes to mind before a straw bag? Tory Burch’s synthetic straw (no wheat died for this!) shoulder bag is just the way I like my flax. With metallic silver leather trim, this is no country bumpkin’s picnic purse. It’s a hot city handbag! Tina gave me a straw-and-silver bag years ago, and every summer I dig it out of my closet because it always fills a need. A classic shoulder bag never goes out of style, so even if it’s purely seasonal, trust me, you will get annual use. This one is even Frugal Snob-approved, so it’s easy to justify the single-season purchase. Burch’s lightly structured bag has a thick, comfortable, no-slip shoulder strap with silver chain details that allow versatility. You don’t have to be in island wear; it’s equally suited for the office or the evening out. And you’ve gotta love that pocket under the flap: my new essential feature. I’ll never miss another call or text again! But don’t worry, Tina. It won’t replace yours. These two straw sisters will just take turns! At Nordstrom for $350.Pair with: A straw bag looks kind of funky with high-waisted and lightly flaired retro jeans. Mother’s baby blues are the perfect shade with precision fit. Mother “The Drama” High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans, $220.

Reece Hudson No. 9 Handle Bag: Birds of a Feather…

What could be better than a quilted white bag to welcome the lazy days of summer? That would be a quilted white OSTRICH bag! Add crocodile to the patchwork equation and you have the most dynamic summertime bag for miles. Reece Hudson‘s No. 9 Handle bag is deceptively simple in its design yet rich in details. From the decadent mishmash of ostrich quills to the ostrich leg skin to the fabulously seamed blend of crocodile, this bag has more than textural intrigue – white-hot (multiple) animal magnetism. It is pieced together like a chevron puzzle – so much so that I stared at it a full five minutes and kept seeing something new every few seconds. The flap with silver bar is not only aesthetically pleasing but very functional (would love it if the bar clasp was a flashlight pen – wouldn’t that be genius?!). Now this is a bag I wouldn’t mind investing in! And don’t be intimidated: white ostrich is no higher maintenance than white leather. Just send it to a leather specialist once a year, and you’ll be fine – that is, after a long summer of enjoying every expertly-stitched inch of it. At Kirna Zabête for $4,400.Pair with: Skin is in, but it must be balanced out. The “Philosophy” pinstripe pencil skirt by Vivienne Westwood in summer-light wool with flamboyantly cut fabric complements the bag by contrasting it. At Net-a-Porter for $380.

Diane von Furstenberg “Elaine” Photographer and Carryall Bags: Don’t Leave Home Without Her

Diane von Furstenberg bags keep getting better and in these two new “Elaine” styles, they have never looked so good. The Photographer bag ($695), in wine or black pebble leather, is a slick two-in-one. With a flick of a strap and a turn of the lock, you can basically double or halve the size. And it has none of the perfunctory aspects of most convertible bags; I love how the front pocket flap seamlessly incorporates the turn-lock design. It should be called the “urban nomad” satchel – it’s especially handy in walking cities where your bag is your Range Rover and you need to carry a spare pair of flats at all times. All the bells and whistles, including a sassy tassel, without looking busy. For the more understated snob, an easy style in a color that’s packed with personality. Lush “lawn” green is definitely the color for me. The Carryall ($650) doesn’t have the foldable function, but it’s equally user-friendly, with an easy shape and pockets galore, inviting you to thrown in all your necessities. The zipped front-pocket function is where I’ll be tucking in all my receipts. Indeed, the “Elaine” bags are ideal for a long day of heavy shopping!

Miu Miu Intreccio Shoulder Bag: Woven Wonder

I totally dig this multi-colored treasure. The Miu Miu woven leather bag with a sweet jeweled strap is a sweet summer sack to throw over your shoulder for a night out or a day at your kid’s friend’s birthday party that you were suckered into helping out at last minute.Bags like this are perfect for warm weather. They are bright, fresh and fun and compliment summer outfits like this sweet pink silk romper paired with some metallic sandals or some scalloped shorts (love) a tank and a blazer for a more polished look that still looks seasonal. With the woven colors, this bag will be easy to play up with many different looks, but be prepared to get a lot of wear out of it if you want to justify the price. It will set you back $1,495 at Bergdorf’s. However, it is summer, throw caution to the wind and get your weave on girl.

Christopher Kane Laser-Cut Leather Clutch: Flashing Lights

Renegade designer Christopher Kane has a major thing for neon (other colors bore him, he says), and who can blame him, really? Even if you don’t want to wear – or carry – something so gaze-searingly hot, it’s a pick-me-up just to take in these undeniably happy colors. While the head-to-toe DayGlo looks from his Spring collection were a bit too “Fruit Stripe gum” for my taste, these little pouch clutches will add just the right amount of snap, crackle, and pop to an otherwise neutral outfit (keep everything else nude and subdued to avoid any hint of cheesiness). Acid yellow gets my vote, by a long shot. Soft calf leather literally looks like lace when it has been laser-cut with this much delicacy. Let’s thank Christopher Kane for his dedication for all things blazingly bright, and consider infusing just a touch on his behalf. Neon yellow, Neon green, Neon-orange on Net-A-Porter for $530.

Yves Saint Laurent Chyc Cabas: Rock the Cabas

Calling all snobs! There’s an official new “It” bag in town, from Los Angeles to New York. Noticed a suspiciously similar roomy tote hanging from the forearms of noted style-setters like Sienna Miller, Leighton Meester, Kylie Minogue, and Carla Bruni and glamorous starlets such as Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Salma Hayek?Ah, the age-old question of what makes an “It” bag. The answer? It’s the right combination of structure and lack thereof; ease that can be appropriated to any knowing woman’s wardrobe, whether she’s ladylike or bohemian; a major statement-maker without sticking a fat logo in your face and everyone else’s.The Chyc Cabas is an adaptable carry-all that’s a city girl’s dream: sheepskin leather in a hold-everything size, multiple pockets (two outer, an inside phone and zip), and the trademark magnetic “Y” closure that spells “Yves Saint Laurent” in a single, decorative letter. Plus, a color for every personality – the neutrals: olive-tinted sand, shiny black, grayish brown and the wilds: juicy magenta, punchy blue, and leopard. Available at Yves Saint Laurent and to be available at Saks Fifth Avenue, for $1,995.

Diego Dolcini Suede and Silk Shoulder Bag: Blue Lagoon

Even if he didn’t reinvent the wheel, Diego Dolcini proves you can show heaps of flair in the attempt. All the classics are here – turn-lock closure, ladylike shape, chain straps – and these borrowed elements have been melded to perfection. Suede complimented by a strip of silk amounts to soothing texture, the fastening is sharply minimal enough for the brand to call the closure its own, and the chains have surprisingly large, loose links. As a matter of fact, the straps are my least favorite aspect of the bag, but for strictly personal reasons. I’m not too keen on the slack link look – fumbling with flaccid yet heavy straps becomes a hassle when I’m opening the bag and this strap doubles over, so metal weight is an added concern. But the lambent deep azure color makes up for the weight. It’s really the main attraction – a turquoise this dazzling is a permanent breath of fresh air, so you’ll never tire of this purchase no matter how many seasons pass. On Luisa Via Roma for $1,120.Pair with: Let your textured blue bag shine and keep shoes neutral. Roberto Cavalli‘s golden cage sandals have straps that are as intricate and demure as the shoe is sexy. Roberto Cavalli Patent-Leather Cage Sandals, $755.

Bottega Veneta Frayed Intrecciato Leather Bag: Wild at Heart

Bottega Veneta has really been letting loose lately. Literally! This ladylike bag from the pre-fall collection has been sliced and sheared all along the edges for a savagely deconstructed look. I’ll admit I was a little taken aback at first: who would have expected something so untamed? But then I realized that the blend of soft and sharp, tight and loose makes for a bag that’s kind of like you: refined and classy, with a wild streak. A major element of surprise.A perfectly buttery leather body offsets the tattered edges even more and muted gunmetal hardware, rather than too-shiny gold or silver, emphasize the fact that the label is flaunting its dark side. Bottega traditionalists might be outraged to see the house has started to destroy their own impeccable weave, but I’m appreciating the fact that they are getting in touch with the feral nature of gorgeous skins. On Net-a-Porter for $2,280.Pair with: Remind them you still maintain an angelic side with Emilio Pucci’s dangling angel-wing earrings. Gold-tone brass encrusted with glass crystals will also bring some metallic bling. On Net-a-Porter for $390.

Tory Burch Gwendolyn Patterned Bucket Tote: Slob or Snob?

This tote confuses me. At first glance, I like the patterned straw in the bucket shape with little tassles on the end. It looked beachy and laid back and I thought it might work with something like a Blue Life maxi and some simple matching Tory Burch flops to the pool on a lazy Saturday afternoon. However, in taking a closer look I’m afraid the round bucket shape just looks weird with such short handles. I also think this would be hard to carry if you had anything more than lip gloss and a pack of gum in it. I think this takes “bucket bag” a little too literally and I would feel like I should stick a shovel in it and give it to the kids I nanny to go nuts making sandcastles with it.The handles make this bag less snob and more impractical snob to me, but what do you guys think? It’s currently sold out @ Shopbop with a price tag of $367.50, so someone out there likes it!What do you think? Slob or Snob?online surveys
