Stella McCartney Wobro Canvas Bag

This incredibly cool gold metallic woven canvas bag from Stella McCartney will make PETA activists whip out their credit cards faster than you can say vegetarian.  We’re usually not very PC but this is the cutest attempt at a canvas bag we’ve ever seen!  Kudos to Stella for her animal lovin’ sensibilities and artistic creativity.  I love that she attached an interior mini pouch for your lipgloss or keys so you can stay organized.  10×16 is a bit bigger than what I am used to but it would be great on Kelly or anyone above average height.  $595 at Net-a-porterWear the Wobro canvas bag with Stella McCartney’s sexy chic brown washed silk halter dress and you’ll be stylin’ all season long.  The bubble hem continues strong for spring and in silk the volume is lighter and more wearable (I love how bubble hems make your legs look so skinny).  I also love the bow on the lapel, very chic.  $1,195 at Net a porter.

Bag Snob in Taiwanese newspaper: Eastern Times

It took arctic winds sweeping through New York city for Lindsay Lohan to cover up her overexposed body.  We actually think she looks nice while shopping in the Meat Packing district last week.  We also love the blush pink metallic bag she is sporting.  The first person to name her bag will receive a super cool “Bag Hook” engraved with Bag Snob to identify you as one of us    We’ve been hanging our birkins all over New York city with this very useful hook.  Leave your answer in comments, our system will clock you so you don’t have to worry about cheaters stealing your answer.  WE’RE HAVING SUCH OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO THE QUIZ, WE’VE DECIDED TO GIVE AWAY 5 OF THE HOOKS!  I will start posting the comments once the first 5 have responded correctly.CONGRATULATIONS TO Erika, Rachel, Rachel, Kerrie, and Shopdiary for being the first to answer correctly!  Your Bag Snob bag hooks will be on it’s way to you shortly~

Taiwan’s Eastern Times newspaper re-printed our article on the LV Tribute Patchwork bag last week, causing our traffic to more than double.  No surprise that there are lots of Bag Snobs in Taiwan, where the Bag Snob girls were born.  Of all the press we’ve received to date, getting a shoutout from the motherland has made us most proud!   We are very excited to have so many new Taiwanese readers- welcome!

Pimp your Maserati with Ferragamo custom bags!

Fast cars and lux bags are de rigeur for the modern woman, so it makes sense that Ferragmo would create a set of bags retrofitted for your new Maserati.  The travel set will include suitcase, weekender, garment bag, beauty case, and shoe case/duffle bag, all to perfectly fit inside the trunk of the new Maserati.  The design is inspired by the car’s front radiator Ferragamo’s men’s wear designer, Massimiliano Giornetti.  The custom made set will be available in two materials: The Firenze-hand treated calf in blackamoor or Maserati’s iconic blue ($9,621 for 5 piece set) or The Modena- scratch resisitant calf hide in black or eggplant with contrasting stitches ($8,966 for 5 piece set)You’ll be able to order the complete set or any number of pieces, which takes 3 months to complete.  The car, $150,000, will be available at Maserati dealerships around the world and the bags will also be available through Ferrgamo flagship stores.  The idea of having a set of luggage to perfectly fit in my trunk is very appealing but I wish they’d do it with the Range Rover cuz there’s no way I’m giving up my big car.Source: WWD

Barneys New York Bags

Left: Barneys’ Carryall $488   Right:  Barneys’ Classic Computer Bag: $525My favorite department store on earth has it’s own private label brand of products that are as luxurious as the designer brands they’re displayed next to.  I’m serious, I am a proud new owner of a Barneys’ Computer bag made of Fjord leather, which is supple and reminds me of Hermes leather.  I showed it to my friend who is an Hermes collector and she said, “When did Hermes start making computer bags?”  Yes, that’s how nice it is.  But beyond the gorgeous leather, the details in stitching is also incredibly well made.  There is a complete line of bags from totes to evening bags priced way below it’s designer counterparts but they look just as nice (if not better in some cases)!  In the Bag Snob age of anti-logo reverse snobbery, only you will have the satisfaction of knowing what your bag cost    Go check it out for yourself.  Barneys New York Bags online.Left: Satin bag by Barneys New York: $485  Right: Resin handle bag $650

Bag Snob Pop Quiz

You guys are getting so good at this we had to think up ways to make it harder    Okay, so this week’s pop quiz is a little different.  We have two divas, each carrying a great bag, Eva Longoria’s silver stunner and Halle Berry’s urban chic carrier.   You must identify both bags correctly to win the engraved Bag Snob bag hook.  Leave your answers in comments, first person to answer BOTH bags correctly wins!   We’ll announce the winner tonight.  Good luck!!!UPDATE: Congrats to Irena for identifying the two bags correctly first.  Eva has the Gerard Darel metallic python bag in her clutches.  Halle is sporting the Gustto Small Baca Handbag.  Congrats!!!  Please email us your mailing address so we can ship the bag hook to you asap!(Yes, Eva’s bag resembles the Michael Kors python bag but the bag has gathers on the side, Michael’s bag has straight sides with the ties.   The bags do look uncannily alike… Michael Kors’ version is fairly new but the Gerard Darel bag has been around forever, hmmmm)On a side note, who’s style do you prefer?  Free Polls – Take Our Poll Source

Tod’s Treccia Bag

I am loving all the colors for Fall!  Purple is making a huge scene, as with of course blue and green.  This Henry Beguelin hobo is casual but stylish, the pin tuck details totally make the bag without being overdone.  The woven handle looks like a Gryson and is a little played out but the contrasting color of it is a nice feature that raised my brows in interest when I first looked at it.  Every bag has to have something to catch my eye and you never know what it’s going to be.  Someone had commented that the Bag Snobs cannot be figured out.  Well, it’s not like we have a formula for what we do, I mean, we are highly emotional and irrational (aren’t all girls?) so even we have no idea what is going to make us love or hate something.  Our poor poor husbands.  Luckily they both know how we are and shrug off our irrational behavior.  I admit, my husband is an angel (this is called greasing the wheels for Fall credit card bills, he doesn’t stop me from buying but who wants to hear squeaking and whining?  When is he going to stop asking, “How many bags do you need?”  There is no real answer to that!  Besides, I just cleared out a huge opening in my closet for new bags.).  The Polly hobo at Neiman Marcus for $1235.

You know we adore Tod’s but the Treccia bag from its Fall collection is ugly and creepy.  Those giant buckles look like Alien googly eyes staring at me and no matter which way I turn, they follows me.  That’s not the only thing hideous about this bag though, the shape is old and frumpy and the braided handles look like a last minute attempt to salvage this bag.  It’s like someone had enough sense in the design process to say “holy shit, this is a piece of crap, let’s at least add braided handles so it will look Bottega-ish”  Nice try but this don’t fly.  And that dangling logo tag is a departure from its usual subtle logo placement, a huge thumbs down from the Bag Snob.   Did I mention it is monstrously large?  Can’t even imagine how heavy this must be.  It comes in dark pukey grey or shiny black.  Tod’s Treccia Bag at eLuxury- $1,490.

Bag Snob Pop Qui

Heidi Klum has been toting this bag around NYC.  Look how good she looks, hello!!  Three kids!!!  You either love her or hate her.  I know she looks a little pissed off here but I love the bright yellow shirt she is wearing with the gold accessories and her wind swept pulled back hair is effortlessly chic.  I totally love her and can’t wait for the new Project Runway to start (although some of the stuff she wears on the show is questionable).  We love her so much our Pop Quiz this weeks is extra special.   If you are the first to guess what bag Heidi is seen with here you will receive a wristlet from the designer (shown above).  I know our bag hooks are awesome but a wristlet is WAYYY awesome.  That is why I picked this picture instead of the full frontal shot I have of the bag.  Our readers are just too good at this so we are trying to make it as hard as possible =)  Please leave your answers in the comments and you must include your email address or your answer will not count.

Dearest Bag Snob (hello Tina and Kelly!),I just bought my first designer bag ever, the Lanvin Heroine in chestnut, which was massively on sale at Barneys and which I love love love and seems to match everything. Only problem is, I have discovered a mere drop of water will stain it. So what can I do — other than carry a plastic bag everywhere in case it rains? That wouldn’t be very elegant. Should I waterproof it? Ask at Barneys? Email Lanvin? Your advice would be very welcome. Thank you!A Friend at WWDHi Friend,So nice to hear from you!  Am excited about your new Lanvin bag, sounds gorgeous.  I would take it to a leather specialist or shoe cobbler and have it treated.   I do that with my most treasured bags and a first designer bag (especially a Lanvin!) deserves to be pampered!Love,Bag Snobp.s.(We love WWD and read it everyday!)Dear Bag Snob,Marvelous, I will do just that. Thank you so much for the excellent advice.Hope you guys are doing great. I really enjoy reading Bagsnob. Your judgmentis spot-on.A Friend at WWD.

Chanel Shiny Alligator

I am officially back from maternity leave!  I of course have been keeping up on the great job Tina has been doing and her obsession with exotic is contagious!  The first thing that caught my eye after having a baby is this Chanel Alligator tote in light green and thought that maybe I will reward myself for making a baby but then I find out that it is $39,500!!  Chanel has been threatening to raise their prices on exotics for a while now and Tina and I kinda just thought it was a sales tactic to get us to buy on the spot but they’ve done it.  And not only have they raised the prices, I feel like their skins are sub-par these days.  I saw a 2.55 alligator recently that had really giant scales which in my opinion is not as nice, the size of the scales need to be proportionate to the bag.  I would think it would be easier to get smaller alligators but this tote also has large scales and that also makes me hesitate.  I saw the most beautiful blue flap bag at Chanel a few months ago for $15,000 (given it was smaller than this tote) which made sense but at $39,500 I would rather wait for a Birkin for $30,000 and is far and away a better investment than this bag.  This alligator tote has not delivered yet but you can call Chanel at 800-550-0005 and they will have whichever store that gets it call you when it arrives.

Bottega Veneta Crocodile Luxanil

$5,900 Pre-order at Saks Fifth AvenueOnce again Bottega is making my heart flutter with an exquisitely crafted handbag.  It being a crocodile bag makes it even more snobulous; and the unique double handles make it a Bag Snob museum worthy piece with a modern twist!  The double handles are ergonomically designed so that when you carry it on the crook of your arm, it will sit flat against you, allowing the world to view this gorgeous bag!   It also adds a bit of quirkiness to the bag which will appeal to our Snobs who are young enough to appreciate edgy fun but old enough for classic looks.  I love the classic shape of the Luxanil, it would work for Bag Snobs of all ages.  Whether you are a young snob who appreciates true luxury or a well seasoned snob looking for another great bag to add to your collection, the Bottega cocodile Luxanil is the one to snatch up!   I can not believe it is only $5,900, any crocodile bag measuring almost 10 inches wide is at least $10,000, especially from a luxurious design house like Bottega.  Bottega Veneta available at Saks.

Lanvin Ontario Messenger

Dear Bag Snob,I am a young University Professor, I am looking for a bag that will carry all of my books and papers while still looking fierce. I don’t want to look too young with a backpack, or too aged with a briefcase. What do you recommend? Thanks!ShawnaDear Shawna,Now that everyone is gearing up to go back to school, we have been getting a lot of questions about the perfect bag for students, as well as professors like yourself.  You are absolutely right, who in their right mind would show up post high school with a backpack?   And unless you are wearing a tweed coat with leather elbow patches, you should not even own a briefcase!!  We of course have the perfect bag for you and it’s from one of our favorite designers, Lanvin.  This suede messenger is super functional and is as fierce as they come without being overly frivolous and fussy for campus life.  The flap closure makes your life easier and the short strap keeps you from looking like an actual messenger.  In fact, the length of the strap is what makes this bag for me.  The obvious thing to do would be to make this into a over the shoulder bag, but you lose the chic, on-the-go style.  The size is great for books and papers at 15″ x 19″, not so big that it would topple you but adequate for most books (at least the ones that I read =)  You can get it at Barneys for $1380.Love,The Bag Snob

Poppie Couture for Fall

Our favorite foldover clutches by darling Poppie Harris of Poppie Couture are now available in an array of Fall shades and skins!  The best one is the exotic stingray in metallic, its glittery glamour is so chic for all occasions this season!  Seen on celebs who buy the bags by the dozen, Poppie’s delectable clutches are now available at Bergdorf Goodman.  I love her bags for their versatility, a big clutch seamlessly takes me from lunch to cocktails and they are just so stylish!  They are also amazingly easy to travel with as they pack flat and are extremely lightweight which is the new criteria for my travel items.  (I am obsessed with changing my old habits of traveling with multiple bags and am determined to downscale to a carry on bag since the airlines can not be trusted with luggage!  Well it’s that or convince my husband I need a private jet in order to properly transport my bags and shoes.)  You must go check out her collection at Bergdorf Goodman or puchase directly from her site. Metallic stingray foldover clutch $650.

Travel Smart with Valextra Vanity Case

$2,670 at Barneys New York, call Meeghan for details!  469-221-4727After almost two weeks in New York I was more than ready to return home.  I packed up my son, hubby and nanny and headed to the airport only to be told while sitting on the plane that our plane had a “fuel leak” which required a part that they may or may not have and may or may not be able to fix even if they had the part.  Everyone was told to stay in their seats until further notice but I am not one to take directions well so despite my husband’s protests (he hates breaking rules and causing a scene) I round up my brood and took off, knocking down flight attendants who dared to stand in my way. Unfortunately, my luggage was not so lucky, they couldn’t keep me on the flight but they kept my bags which went on to Dallas without me at midnight, 8 hours after our original departure time.  I booked a flight for the next day, went back to the city, had dinner with my family and went to bed early.  My point of this long tale?  Thank god for travel size cosmetics and thank god for vanity cases!   (more photos after the jump!)Valextra has hands down the most fabulous vanity cases on the market.  We all obsessed over the white one but now they are offering a delicious orange shade in sturdy grain leather for Fall.  Orange is the perfect color for the practical snob who does not have access to a private jet nor travel butler (our friend has one and let me tell you, a travel butler is the way to go!) but still wants to travel in high style.  Less likely to stain or scuff, it is also great for weekend trips by car or boat (or in my case, as a spa/gym bag so I can have all my necessities at my fingertips.  Is that high maintenance?  You obviously have not spent time with me.).  Size 12″ x 7.8″ x 7.4″$2,670 at Barneys New York, call Meeghan for details!

Michael Kors Spring 2008

Michael Kors proves once again why he is a favorite amongst celebs and social girls with a crowd pleasing collection of sexy and chic clothes. “The juxtaposition of romance and athleticism….strident sexy American style with a sporty edge… sleek sunkissed glamour” is what Michael Kors strove for and he did it with perfection. I loved the sleek dresses and easy pullovers, all items I must have in my closet immediately! And the bags, the best bag collection he’s shown yet! Oversized and glittering, fab little clutches with hand straps, it all worked flawlessly.Bag Snob Picks: Flamingo Crystal Jersey Dance Dress, Black Crystal Jersey Halter Jumpsuit, Guava/Apricot Silk Chiffon Jersey Empire Gown, Lime Cashmere Lurex Pullover with Flamingo Silk Lame Pleated Skirt.Color Palette: Warm tones of Flamingo, Iris, Sunshine, Tangerine, Lime, Crisp Navy, Black and Khaki with bold punctuations of White.

Louis Vuitton Olympe Nimbus GM

I saw a Louis Vuitton bag today that didn’t make me cringe, in fact, it was really cute!  One of my book club girlfriends got a shimmering pearl gray Olympe Nimbus bag for Christmas and though I have seen it in print and on other sites all season I really did not give it much thought because you all know I am not a LV fan.  In person, however, the bag is truly adorable.  Soft and plushy , it is lightweight and curved so it fits perfectly against the body.  The shoulder strap had seemed bulky to me in photos but it is actually flat on the bottom so it hangs on your shoulder securely without any slip and slide annoyance!  The logos are not prominent and being ruched, you can’t even tell it says LV unless you are a die hard trendoid fashionista that can spot and name a Louis Vuitton bag from a mile away.  Even the subtle ruffles are girly and fun, not obnoxious at all.  There is also the PM (petite size around 12″) if you are not into giant bags as the GM is 19.7″.I can’t believe I am actually gushing about a Louis Vuittong bag…   And before you rag on it, go hug it at a Louis Vuitton boutique- one stroke of the the buttery soft leather and you will want to adopt it too.  $2,550 As a side note, my book club should really be renamed the “Bag” club.  I think we spent all of 5 minutes discussing the book of the month (Ken Follet’s Pillars of the Earth) and what was said was “Who knew it was 900 pages?”  “It’s full of really difficult words you know.”  “We’re going to need a dictionary to finish the book.”  “It may take all year.”  “That is if we are smart enough to actually finish.”  After that, most of our lunch was devoted to the groovy bags everyone had.  Let’s see, Christine is the lucky girl with the LV Olympe above, Julie carried a lovely turquoise Hermes Kelly in 25cm, Kim (a total Bag Snob herself) toted a new 25cm Hermes birkin in etoupe lizard (can you say jealous!?!?), sweet Janet sported a monogrammed Goyard and I can not remember what Robin had but I am sure it was Chanel and fabulous.

Congratulations! Vivre Sweepstakes Winner

UPDATE: Congratulations to Melody L. of Berkeley Calif!  The answer is D&G Allyson Bag!  Thanks for playing everyone!Hilary Duff is one of the few young actresses in Hollywood who do not irritate me.  She’s always cute and she has great bags.  So she is accused of an occasional lip syncing but if that is the worst crime she’s committed, it’s okay!  I mean Madonna lip syncs and look how long she’s been around.  So, we have a fun pop quiz for you with a nice little prize.  Tell us, what bag is Hilary totin’?  Give us the Designer and the Bag name to win.  We will take all the correct answers and do a random drawing to give everyone a fair chance.  Quiz will end on Friday, Jan. 18th at 11:59pm EST.  Winner will be announced over the weekend.  All International readers welcome to participate!.  Leave your answer in comments! So what’s the prize?  This fabulous Devi Kroell Coin Purse/Key chain in metallic gold python, a $90 retail value!

R&Y Augousti Python Hobo

What is up with python this week you ask?  Well, that is what they are selling these days and we have no control over it but I have to say, it is amazing!!  R&Y Augousti is known for their exotic and unusual use of materials – they are not afraid of the wrath of PETA!  I used to have a hard time with snake that looks like snake but you have to try it on with your clothes and you will see how beautiful it is and not scary at all.  The varying shades and gradation of natural python matches with practically everything.  What else would you be able to wear with white, brown, black AND all other colors?  Can you imagine how amazing this will look with something blue?  I just listed all the colors of my closet but as you can see, this will go with any wardrobe.  The clean shape with patched corners is impeccably stylish and uncluttered for the perfect all around bag.  The hardware is reminiscent of the YSL muse hardware but I don’t mind, the rest of the bag looks nothing like YSL. The slightly padded strap in leather makes this super comfortable so that you can and will use it everyday.  $1840 at Barneys New York.

Doheny by Oscar de la Renta : Take Two

Beauty Snob- how to wear the new spring shades from Cover Girl.Jewel Snob loves the Spirit of Cindy Chao!Tot Snob has the most adorable baby cashmere baby poncho from Agnona.Purse Blog gives you the Leyla Bag by True Religion!Fab Sugar wants to know how you feel about the new Prada Waves Color heels. Love it? Hate it? or could care less?…go vote! We heart our friends up yonder in Canada and so appreciate the support from both the press and our Canadian readers! Here is a recent article from The Globe and Mail- Canada’s National Newspaper. Thanks for the love!

I am all about the Doheny clutch from Oscar lately.  My white one in crackled patent leather is lightweight and easy to use- especially the magnetic flap which allows me to get in and out of my bag effortlessly, I find myself constantly grabbing it before I head out for lunch or dinner!  It’s so liberating to have a big ol’ clutch to hold my PDA cell, camera (you never know when I need a shot for Bag Snob), wallet, make up bag, etc etc.  I just love the silhouette of an oversized clutch with a suit or jeans in the day or with a cocktail dress in the evening, it’s an unexpected proportion that looks modern and stylish.  You have no idea how often I am stopped by passing strangers who ask “who made that clutch!?!??”  The Doheny is free of logo but heavy on style, in other words, simply chic!  I was in the Oscar boutique the other day (my new home away from home- there are eight boutiques in the US, you must go to one near you.  Just hang out like I do and play with all the clothes, bags, shoes, jewels and home accessories- I promise you will become addicted!) and saw the latest incarnations of the Doheny- named after a street in LA when the Melrose boutique opened.  For Summer, the Doheny gets punched up in a juicy orange ostrich ($3,495) and a stucco crackled patent leather ($995), both are great colors to add to your bag wardrobe.  I am partial to the nude “stucco” shade, it’s the perfect complement to the bright blue Oscar bubble dress I am currently obsessed with.  Spring ready to wear is all about bold fun color and you’ll need a neutral to set it all off!  Call Mindy at 214-346-0400 to order.  More photos after the jump!Left: Stucco patent leather $995 Right: Oscar Bubble Dress $2,895Orange ostrich $3,495  14.5″x7″We also love the Doheny shoulder bag in stucco crackled patent leather ($1,795), it has the same style as the clutch but with straps that have just a small touch of modern chain detail. 13″x7″

Tragedy Struck My Chanel Wallet

Or more precisely, nail polish remover struck it.  I got this horrific picture from a reader, Linh, her niece spilled nail polish remover on her Chanel wallet and needless to say, she is devastated.  Linh came to us for help and luckily there is hope.  One of the biggest draws with buying from big major designers like Chanel is that they have an internal repair service with specialists that they call “Leather Surgeons” (I’m not making that up, it is their official title).  If you are faced with a bag disaster, you need to send it back to the Chanel Boutique you bought it from (even if you did not buy it from their boutique, find the closest one to you and send it there.  Neiman Marcus will not be able to help you).  Once the leather surgeon takes a look, he will be able to tell you what he can do and how much it will be.  There are options with damage like the one here with nail polish remover that has bleached the leather.  Depending on the saturation level, if it is just surface damage, it is salvageable, if it is soaked through the leather, there may not be anything they can do.  They can use the original dye and redye it black (if you have beige leather, your only option would be to go black).  This could cost anywhere from $200-$500, but keep in mind a new Chanel wallet is only a few hundred more so it may not be worth it.  The turnaround for repairs is around 8 weeks.  We hope nothing like this happens to your Chanel bag, but if you need additional information or you do not know where to send your sick bags, contact the Managing Director of the Highland Park boutique.

Chanel White Caviar Leather Tote

I have been getting a lot of emails asking me about the perfect classic bag, the ONE bag to get this season and I know it seems obvious but my choice is this Chanel.  In caviar leather (also comes in black) it is the most practical of all the leathers from Chanel, the textured surface is scratch resistant and easy to care for which means it will last as long as classics should last for – forever!  Whether you are a mom, an office warrior or gal of leisure, you can use a bag like this.  With roomy pockets that add to the youthfulness of the style, it is fashion meets function at its perfection!  I prefer the updated look of the stitched in quilt pattern rather than the actual puffy quilting.  I am not your typical Chanel customer, I don’t wear Chanel jackets, my look is young and casual, that is why this bag is so appealing, this will take me from jeans to my nicest dresses (that’s pretty much my range since I no longer wear suits, I used to love pant suits and wanted an office job just so I can wear them.  I now realize how ridiculous that is!).  But my point is, this is one of those bags that will be amazing on anyone – a classic you will cherish and rely on for as long as women continue to covet lovely bags =)  $3,875 at your Chanel boutique

Bruno Frisoni Patent Frame

I am a huge fan of Bruno Frisoni shoes, and it looks like the love has spread to bags as well.  (I am hunting down these peep toes with the thick slingback in my size, ultra comfy and oh-so-lovely!)  So, I saw this taupey-grey patent frame at Fred Segal yesterday and was so mesmerized by how different it is–and bursting with style and character! I love the red frame contrast; it sets off the bag perfectly! This also comes in a turquoise with red frame, but that color combination is almost too cartoonish and totally unusable. With this bag, you can wear the most boring plain thing and still be caught turning heads left and right. The straps are long enough to fit comfortably under the arm (it fits under mine, so will fit under most) which is good because you need to distribute the weight of this bag. I am so spoiled by light bags that I now have a hard time with anything that weighs more than a feather. This bag has a gorgeous silver metallic lining. It is always delightful to find the inside of the bag as nice as the outside, but with a leather lining, you pay for it, with your muscle and moola. This bag is a bit pricey for what it is at $1995, but is selling like crazy. Girls who suffer for fashion will find this one is totally worth it!! Call Fred Segal Santa Monica, 310-394-9814–there are only a couple left.

The Urban Chic of V.O.D

What does a fashion editor of a major publication do when she decides to get out of the rat race of journalism? Why, she goes shopping, of course!  Jackie Bolin, formerly of Dallas Morning News, supported Bag Snob when most editors gagged at the word “blog” (along with the lovely Kristie Ramirez and David Ninh) and for that, we will always be grateful! Though we miss her at the paper, she can be found daily at her new store, V.O.D. One of the most tightly edited boutiques in town, V.O.D at Victory Park in Downtown Dallas is a slice of urban chic fashion heaven. You won’t find the usual department store fare on the slick racks of this eclectic store–Jackie, along with co-owners Liz Thompson and Elizabeth O’Mahoney, offers only the most special and unique pieces for the low-key fashionista. Stop by the V.O.D boutique for the latest goodies; if you are in a fashion rut, who else to better help you with a new spring wardrobe than a former fashion editor!?!? Those who aren’t lucky enough to live in the Lone Star State, call Jackie, and she’ll ship you anything your greedy heart desires.  2418 Victory Park Ln.  (214) 754-0644Jump to read all about Belgian bag designer Diane Izzedin, exclusively at V.O.D in the United States! Are you sick of logos and celeb endorsed “it” bags? Are you craving a truly unique, luxe handbag? Look no further than V.O.D boutique exclusive, Belgian designer, Diane (pronounce DEE AHN, as in Furstenberg) Izzedin. She has been crafting one-of-a-kind accessories from exotic skins and leathers for nearly a decade! Her slouchy, rock-and-roll snakeskin shoulder bags are her most sought-after designs. All the work is done completely by hand; some feature thick, metallic-leather, braided straps, which are super hip and functional. The designer splits her time between Houston, Miami and Ibiza.  Another interesting tidbit: Diane is also available by appointment to work with customers on creating custom bags — she designed a giant, chocolate brown gym bag for a man in Houston and a python baby bag for a very cool new mom here in Dallas. Call Jackie to find out how to customize a Diane Izzedin bag for yourself!Jackie’s favorite style right now is vivid yellow and made completely from anaconda. Bottega Veneta: The Knots- A Retrospective

The Knots: Prices start at $1,100.  Call Jasenka at 214-265-0136 to inquire about styles!I went to the Bottega Veneta party toasting 30 years of the Knot bag last week and had the best time (it’s hard not to have fun when there is flowing champagne, good food and gorgeous bags!  But I would’ve had even more fun had I been at the LA dinner with Tomas Maier and Julie Gilhart on the patio of Barneys Greengrass the night before–  hint hint, Marisa — okay fine, I promise I won’t smother him with kisses!).  There were incredible Knot bags from the Bottega archives on display along with current pieces for sale.  Not only were they amazing to see, I learned so much about the history of this elegant clutch.  When it was first introduced, the knot was actually a rectangular crystal clasp (that is how you can distinguish vintage knot clutches from current ones) but the silhouette has always been the same chic and simple style.  More after the jump!I also got a sneak peak at the next season; for fall, the Knot clutch is elongated and embellished with dazzling beads and crystals, absolutely fabulous!  Tomas Maier is a genius, he knows how to reinvent and update Bottega bags without losing its signature flavor.  Knot bags vary in price depending on the leather and details.  There is an origami one that I found exquisite– there is something about Eastern influence on a very Western style bag that is extraordinary.  Call Jasenka at Bottega Veneta boutique to inquire about getting a Knot bag that fits your personality and taste!  214-265-0136Woven silk knot bags at Net a porter.

Kotur Sibal Ayers Snakeskin

This is a MUST have for everyone!  You cannot get more exquisite than this Kotur classic frame bag in genuine snakeskin.  And now that it is officially summertime, how can you get through the season without one fabulous white white bag?  Impractical you say?  This bag will be perfect for all those bridal/baby showers, luncheons and anytime you need to look ladylike and amazing.   You do not use it on a daily basis but is a bag you take out a few times a year, year after year and it will never be passé.  And look at the cute little coin purse it comes with.  But this is why you need to get one, it is over 50% off at ideeli, the retail price was $915 and is now $438.  How do they do it?  I’m not sure, all I care about is that I get it for a ridiculous price.  This is a membership only boutique but they have a special code for Bag Snob readers.  The sale starts today at 11:32am (not sure why not 11:30 on the dot but whatever) so click here and sign in and you will get an email alert when the sale starts.  Yes, sorry, it all sounds like a pain but for this price it is sooo worth it!!  And I know you are excited about it because I am!

Gerard Darel 24 Heures Barcelona – Private Sale

veryone loves Gerard Darel, especially this sporty and functional everyday Barcelona style.  You can imagine how excited I got when I heard of this sale through ideeli.  Not only can you get your hands on the bag that is seen on the most chic in Paris, it is only $380.  Now the hard questions is, should I get the white or the navy?  Both are perfect for the summer, navy goes with so much especially since I’m the jeans girl, so I should go for the navy.  But in the summer, you can’t go wrong with white, it is amazing with absolutely everything.  What the heck, just get both, at this price why am I hurting my brain over it?  Again, ideeli has set up a special link for Bag Snob readers (because they are a members only retailer and you must be invited to join).  Sign up to be alerted when this bag goes on sale sometime today.  Apparently I gave away trade secrets when I told you when the Kotur sale was going to start.  This time, you will just have to stay tuned.  Can you stand the suspense?!!

Diane von Furstenberg Cruise 2009: La Petite Valise

Watch video here!Check out the DVF Cruise/Pre-Spring show in Florence I was invited to last week.  I could not attend as I was still in Paris but to receive an invitation to the show in addition to cocktails and dinner with DVF after the show was enough to make me swoon.  The event was held at the largest private garden in Firenze– Giardino Torrigiani– which includes portions of the original Medici walls built under Cosimo il Vecchio.  Ms. von Furstenberg showed her collection with “La Petite Valise” in mind, “When you figure out your suitcase, you figure out your life,” she said.  And the entire collection was filled with packable pieces fit for a jet setting Princess.  I was tempted to hop over to Florence from Paris for a couple of days with my own petite valise in tow to attend this amazing show and dinner but this trip was about spending quality time with my family and I felt too guilty to take off.  Judging from the  video I missed out on a fabulous show but at least I didn’t miss out on the wonderful trip with my hubby and son.  The many sumptuous bags and clutches shown down the “green”way also proved that DVF bags are here to stay.  More photos after the jump!Photos: DVF

Second City Style Summer Sale Alert!

Does the Dior stamped croc tote for Fall look eerily familiar to you?  I don’t think it takes a genius to see where its inspiration is drawn from.  Not only is the shape uncanny to the YSL tribute tote (which came out last year), they even went as far as using a stamped croc leather, as if no one would notice?!?!  So the handle is slightly different and they added an outer pocket but everything else (including the dangling logo) is too similar to ignore!  I was discussing bags with a friend who is a director at a large fashion house in New York last year and she had said– “Everyone in the bag business wants to be YSL.”  Apparently, Dior does, too.  Of course, it could be er…. coincidence.  As in, pigs fly south each winter.  Dior $1,895 at eLuxury and YSL Tribute tote $1,395

Second City Store is now offering 40% off on Orlando Espinoza when you use the code: Orlando40  and 25% off on all the other designers clothing, jewelry and accessories when you use the code: Summer25 at checkout.  Valid through August 31, 2008.

Dautore Slouchy Hobo

Haven’t you heard?  Boho chic is back even though the dwarf twins are no longer in the news (as much).  Maybe that’s the reason, it’s way less tiring this way.  OK, so this may not be so bohemian but I am appreciating a good practical hobo, so why not add some fun and interesting details, like the ruching, patent cording swirls on the sides and knotted strap – and they do not get in the way of function but give the bag style and personality.  It is also my Cheap Thrill of the week so if you are not totally convinced, at least you won’t be needing to take the bus to afford it.  And that brings me to the thing that makes “Cheap” the operative word here, the interior’s got some funky printed lining that I do not like.  Yes, it’s bright and colorful but so are clowns, let’s just say it is not a sign of refined style.  It probably is not so bothersome if you have to just glance at it quickly but you’d be surprised how much you pay attention to the interior of a bag.  That is the thing I look at first and is usually a deal breaker for me if I am not fully satisfied with its quality.  Hmmm, maybe I should not have featured this bag.  Oh well, too late now.  Take it for what it is.  Besides, there is no science to bag obsession, someone might really be digging the print.  Dautore Slouchy Hobo at Shopbop for $656.

Purse with Purpose: Abi Ferrin Clutches

Buy a purse with purpose…more than just for looking fabulous!  Abi Ferrin has her chic new clutches made in Cambodia by women rescued out of the sex trade- $80.All you have to do is buy a bag to help provide food, shelter, and education to woman and children rescued from prostitution in Cambodia.   How easy is that?  For only $80, go ahead and buy one in all 10 vibrant colors.  I especially love the bright green, turquoise, and yellow for the summer.  For a little extra flare, Dallas jewelry designer, Rachelle Dauphinee, has added jewels to some of the clutches ($425).  These clutches are sure to give Lauren Merkin a run for the money.  I’ve been grabbing one of my Ferrin clutches over my numerous Lauren Merkin pocketbooks before almost every outing this summer.  Ferrin was invited to show in New York fashion week this year.  Hurry and jump on the the Abi Ferrin train.  We will see big things from her.  She is getting hot, fast!  For more information.Guest Blog by Kari SchlegelAbi Ferrin clutch with jewels by Rachelle Dauphinee, $425.

Tod’s Iris Grande

My love of Tod’s know no bounds – it is not because they are the most stylish bags out there but that’s why I never think twice about getting a Tod’s, they are not the uber trend bags so they will endure.  Tod’s is always put together, practical and the quality has no competition in its price range.  This is a bit off the map for Tod’s (but not by much) with the top stitching detail and leather wrapped handles so it is a bit younger and definitely a lot more hip, especially in this taupey / grey that I love so much for Fall.  Everyone is getting into a younger market these days, and who can blame Tod’s, they are your mother’s practical tote, right?  I am not totally in love with the direction their bags have been going in but still, every season I am able find that one I love and use and use and use until it is seriously a mess.  But I take it in for a cleaning and it comes back to me perfect and ready to go again.  It also comes in a very soft pretty blue, but it is this taupey / grey that has caught my eye!  At eluxury for $1675.

Nancy Gonzalez Flat Croc Clutch

I know you are going to laugh at my schizo-ness but I saw these clutches and all thoughts of black bags have vanished from my mind!  What was I thinking?  How can I give up such luscious juiciness– for widow black!?!?  One look at the skittle happy colors and I’m hooked back.  Nancy Gonzalez is killing me with bag after fabulous bag and making me lose my mind, I have been emailing their office daily and driving them insane with my incessant questions– luckily Santiago Gonzalez (Nancy’s son) is a friend so they tolerate me over there. Anywho, back to these lovelies, the flat croc clutches are oversized at 13.5″, not ginormous but not wimpy either.  It’s just the right size to wear with, like, everything.  Really, I mean it.  What can’t you wear with one of these babies?  I can’t think of single thing.  I want it in green, fuschia, and purple.  Okay, I want them all.  What can I say, a greedy heart is hard to satiate so why even try?  Nancy Gonzalez croc clutches $2,300

Congratulations to Sally A from New York, she is our lucky winner of this week’s pop quiz.  The bag is Lockheart’s Zahara tote.  The multi-pocket bag is full of function and has way more edge than you would expect from Lockheart.  It is $695, call Lockheart directly at  800-783-2160 to order.

Chloe Freja Clutch

What did I say about clutches coming in all shapes and sizes for Spring?  Now this is definitely something interesting and breathes new hope for me for the House of Chloe.  This took some ingenuity and a serious designer brain, thus my unmitigated excitement.  Clutches are meant as a show piece so the functionality doesn’t need to be totally there the way a tote does.  With this on your arm, the message to the world is definitely “out” of the box, whatever your views may be.  I love that it shows such personality and individuality, which is so hard with bags because only a handful of designers continually make good bags so even when you walk around with a fabulous Birkin or a YSL, you are not exactly displaying individual flair.  You look damn good but just not all that original.  Well, this is a Chloe so you aren’t exactly being obscure here with this clutch, but at least it shows you’ve got some rebellious hormones left in you from teenage-hood.  This can also be worn with your hand slipped through the middle fold (a la Prada).  The small, shown here, is $1300 and will be available in February.  There is a larger size that will retail between $2300-$2800 by order only.  I’m thinking the larger size would be more appropriate for wearing your hand through, unless you have exceptionally small hands.  For more info contact Gabrial at the Chloe store .

Vera Wang Fall 2008

I barely made it to the tents in time for the Vera Wang show this morning, a huge fire shut down 3rd Ave and traffic was horrendous.  I was totally panicked because not only is Vera our favorite Chinese-American designer but my friend Sasha (whose stepmother was an editor at Vogue with Vera and a close family friend of hers) promised to take me backstage to meet her!  I managed to get to my seat at 10:30, just in time as the plastic runners were being removed from the runway. The show was absolutely breathtaking, Vera Wang said the collection is a “measured study in color, texture, silhouette and proportions playfully depicted in the sophisticated portraits of Dutch artist Kees van Dongen.  From the striking color palette, which ranges from all manner of charcoal-blacks, to melanges of shades that frequently border on “neon”, his paintings celebrate his love of fashion, his love for women, and his passion for la vie mondaine.”  The resplendent collection also featured fabulous jewelry by Phillip Crangi which glittered elegantly against the soft draped tops.  The tassle necklaces hung casually around the neck made even the most intricate of gowns feel effortless.  I loved the silhouette of the pompadour skirts, shown with Chinese poppy techno brocade top or a brown cashmere antique gold collar sweater, it was playful and fun.  An interesting detail was her use of neon bright tights, an orange pair under a midnight green embroidered back drape dress lightened the mood and created a multi-dimension contrast of color and texture.  My favorite looks were an ivory taupe satin silk cream embroidered top over black felt twist skirt and a beige cashmere cardigan over mink faille short sleeve embroidered micro pompadour dress.  There were also plenty of felt hats jauntily placed on the models’ heads, furthering the playful mood of the collection.  Sasha introduced me to Vera backstage and though she was surrounded by dozens of people and photographers trying to vie for her attention, she took time to meet me and snap a photo.  Just love her!   Thanks, Sasha.  Love you too!
