Sang A River Tote in Woven Eel

This fun coin purse or what I call a clutch pouch is what everyone needs when using their favorite clutch. I talked about the floating cards and bills in clutches yesterday and this is the perfect solution for that. I used to use a card holder for my cards, but what about the money? You put it in the zip pocket (if there is one) but it still has a good chance of falling out. And is not the most organized. This pouch does not have card slots, it is like an envelope but it is big enough for all your cards and a pretty good size wad of cash (plus it holds coins which causes problems in a clutch). It makes using your clutch a totally streamlined operation. These come plain without the YSL Paris flagship address but I just find it so kitchy and cute because it is shaped like an envelope. It is $195 and comes in anthracite (which I got), black and metallic gold. There is a larger size but it will be too big for traditional size clutches (those are $245). This is only available this season and they are selling out fast so if you want one call Fatima at YSL Rodeo Dr.

Sang A has become the industry’s little known secret for super cool bags. Olivia Chantecaille was seen with one of her clutches at the big Prada party in NY during fashion week. Now everyone is clamoring to get theirs! Their Spring collection has finally arrived and we are excited to get ours, too! We love the River Tote, it is one of the most practical, well used and loved bags in our collection. So much so that both Tina and I just got another one, in this amazingly cool and interesting woven eel. It looks like flower pedals and I know what you’re all thinking, eel is ewwww, right? Well, no because when it is woven, the slight sheen it has gives it dimension as well as the amazing texture woven skins have. The simple, chic and modern River Tote shape is the perfect vehicle for this intricate and exotic skin, it shows off beautifully especially with the pared down hardware (unlike other Rivers, it does not have the square hardware piece where the straps attach). I of course love the long strap, it is comfortable and is flattering as it elongates the figure. It is $2156, to order email Sang A or call 212-564-4433 to place an order. Sang A bags are also available

Hermes Kelly Wallet

Call Hermes (214) 528-0197 and ask for Craig to purchase wallets ONLY. No birkin inquiries will be accepted over the phone.I am always on the hunt for the perfect wallet because my wallet is the most important item in my bag (sometimes more than the bag itself)! I actually spend more time choosing my wallets than my handbags because there are so many conditions to be met, but today, the hunt for THE wallet is finally over. The latest style from Hermes, the Kelly Long Money Holder or Ligne Kelly (I prefer to call it the Kelly Wallet/Clutch) is the answer to my dreams! It is 7 inches wide (18cm, half the length of a 35cm birkin) and may also be used as a clutch, nothing like a two for one to get me excited! (More after the jump!)I went through my list of requirements: chic style (it’s Hermes, it’s a Kelly, need I say more?), a color that will endure daily abuse (etoupe is the perfect shade of taupe gray that won’t show dirt or stains), adequate credit card/ID slots(12- I only use two credit cards but seem to have a dozen of other ‘cards’- ID cards for my son and I, insurance card, prescription card, membership cards, VIP cards to clubs, Gym card, Yoga card- the list is endless!), space for cash (two slots, you can fit a passport in one of them!), foreign currency/checks/receipts (there are two pockets behind the credit card slots which will fit everything from Chinese RMB to the Euro), and functional coin pocket (with an adorable miniature Hermes lock as the zipper pull which actually cinched the deal for me, who else but me would buy a wallet purely because the zipper pull is so cute!?!?).Made of ultra durable and lightweight Chevre Mysore (Goatskin), the Kelly Ligne is the best Hermes wallet I have ever owned. My Hermes Dogon and Bearn wallets lack sufficient card slots and they do not close properly when the coin pockets are full. The Kelly clasp allows me to stuff as much as I want without worrying about closing it! Plus I love being able to open it and look down to see everything I have in there at one glance. The best part, though, is its double function as a clutch (I put my cell in there and it fits!) and you don’t have to worry about a wallet for your credit cards or cash because it’s already built in! There is a wait list for the Kelly Ligne wallet so you must call your Hermes SA immediately. It is available in multiple colors but I absolutely love the etoupe, it is so chic and sophisticated. At Hermes Boutiques worldwide. Each year, Hermes changes the leather and exotic skins you may order from depending on availability. Here are the skins available this year if you are one of the lucky ones to be on a permanent list.EXOTICSPorosus crocodile from Australia- Most commonly found on Northern shores of Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia. Hermes does not glaze the Porosus croc skins so they will never peel. This skin is polished with an agate stone and the skin has to lay flat under the machine so once it is made into a bag, you will never be able to polish it again! I’ve ordered mine in Graphite (it turns gray, black or brown depending on the light) and am anxiously waiting it’s arrival. The Rouge 95 is also amazing and gorgeous!Niloticus crocodile from Africa- the ever popular matte croc is rich and sumptuous. (All crocs have to be at least 10 years old to meet Hermes standards)Mississippi Alligator- the best ‘gator skin in the world is from the US.Lizard from Africa- Available in size 25cm or smaller due to the small size of lizards.Ostrich from South Africa – Hermes uses the most incredible ostrich skins with flat quills. My White ostrich Kelly is from the ’60s, older than me, and is still flawless.LEATHERSVeau Swift- Veau means calf in French, the word after it is usually the way the calf skin has been treated and/or stamped. This is a soft and sturdy calf skin.Veau Togo – One of the most popular skins from female calf skin, tumbled and printed. I was told it is being phased out, what a shame as I just love Togo!Veau Box – A stiff calf skin that wears to a beautiful patina but scratches easily.Veau Epsom – Calf skin that has a smoother grain and is very stiff, I like this for the white Hermes bags.Troika Calf hair- A delicate and gorgeous skin but it will wear around the edges. Not the most durable.Vache Liege- Vache means cow in French- you’ll see that cow skin is also thicker than calf skin. Liege is the way it is treated and stamped.Vachette Crispee Fjord – Cow skin in a heavy and looser texture.Chevre Mysore- Goatskin is becoming increasingly difficult to find at Hermes quality so chances are you won’t be able to order one this year so if you see one ready made at the boutique, grab it!Taurillon Clemence – The softest and most durable of skins made of Bull leather. The grain is looser than the Veau skins.Buffle- Buffalo skin is as tough as you can get. This is usually used for luggage. This is it for orders made in 2008. I told myself I would not order any more leather Hermes bags and would focus on exotics but couldn’t resist ordering the Taurillon Clemence in Olive. The color is so urban and cool! If I have time later, I will post another entry on the colors available in each skin.A serious Hermes collector does not merely buy birkins. There are so many delectable items to be had and treasured. I bought a photo album and journal in Blue Jean Veau togo when my son was born, I’ve been keeping the journal and album with all of his “firsts” and will give both to him when he has his own child. My own Hermes bag collection consists of Birkins, Kelly bags, mini Kelly pochettes, the Lindy, several wallets, and a couple of vintage bags in a mix of exotics and leathers. I also collect Hermes enamel bangles, belts and scarves. (Forgot to mention JPG’s Hermes ready-to-wear are funky classics that I adore, I especially love the silk tops and crocodile platform shoes). Yes, I am sick and my obsession runs deep but Hermes is the only luxury brand that does not lose its value (even Chanel does not hold its value once it’s left the boutique), in fact Hermes bags increase in value with time so at least I am not squandering away my child’s inheritance! Actually, I view my Hermes collection as heirlooms to be passed down to my future daughter or granddaughters.

Snob Worthy Links for April 1, 2008

We are always looking for interesting bags and when I came across this Celine clutch in patent leather, I got a tiny bit excited (I said a tiny bit). Upon closer inspection, however, I am not so excited. The brightly colored turquoise patent leather is fun and of the moment but what is with the tan leather trim? To give it some sort of rodeo rustic flavor? A bit of it would have sufficed, thank you very much. As in just around the top flap if you must and no need for the strange long flap nor the multiple leather strips up and down the front and back. I usually enjoy juxtaposing contrasting skins and colors but in this case, it falls short. What do you guys think of the $990 Celine Patent leather clutch, ? Snob or Slob? Diaper Bag No Way, NEVER

Pierre Hardy 40% off at Barneys Dallas on May 5th for one day only! Call Pam or Cory at 469-221-4807 to pre-order!Anya Hindmarch Oakley, Goyard Saint Louis, Pierre Hardy, YSL DowntownDear Bag Snob,I have been looking for a big bag suitable to be used as a diaper bag for almost 4 years now (my oldest is almost 4 and second baby just turned 1). I am looking for something that is light (not heavy) in a spring color and big to carry all my baby items. I know you are not a fan of the Goyard bags, but they look like they could be used as handy diaper bags. I am referring to the Saint Louis bags. What do you think? Do you think they’re worth what they cost?Thank you!Love,StephanyHi Stephany,I do not use diaper bags because there are a lot cuter options out there. The Goyard is a only good choice because it is ultra light. The medium (19″ x 10.5″) is $940 and the large (22″ x 12″) is $1065 (at Barneys NY in Beverly Hills, 310-276-4400), so the prices aren’t outrageous but it is very thin leather and is just one large sack (which makes it tough for all the tiny baby things). It does not make for the most idea baby bag. I use the YSL large downtown ($1795 and comes in great spring colors as well), it is really giant so it’s great for my 2 kids but in the buffalo leather, it is extremely heavy. I would never think to use it without my stroller. And I know I said I would never use an actual diaper bag, but I do like the Anya Hindmarch Oakley in canvas ($305), which is a regular bag that she converted into a diaper bag by adding a pouch with changing pad in it (I love this pouch and use it with all other bags). This is amazingly convenient with all the outer pockets and is perfect for beach, park, picnic and even fits my computer and documents! (Call the Short Hills boutique 973-379-7183 to inquire).Since you only have one baby in diapers, a couple of smaller options would be the Pierre Hardy and the Bottega Veneta Julie. The Pierre Hardy ($1655 and is 40% off in store at Barneys) is ultra chic and light! The buttery leather is as soft as your baby’s skin!! I have the messenger style with the cross body strap but this tote completely takes the baby bag look out of it. And of course like all your other practical needs, the Bottega Veneta Julie ($1880) is the way to go for ultimate function and in this robin’s egg blue is perfect for summer. It slings on your shoulder comfortably so thatyou have a fighting chance wrangling with your unruly toddler. All of these bags are under $2000 which is my limit because kids are messy and I would not risk my Chanel and Hermes to the torture. And while we’re at it, the greatest mommy shoe of all time is the woven ballet slippers from Bottega Veneta ($570). Talk about comfort, these feel like house slippers on your feet but are super stylish so you can avoid the barefoot and pregnant stigma.I hope this helps! We are always there for our fellow mommies!!Love,Bag Snob Kelly

Maia N Python Wrap Clutch

I saw this bag in Glamour and had to plagiarize Suze Yalof Schwartz’s work (Executive Fashion Editor at Large) because you have to see this amazing clutch (plus, she said I could!). This line was created by sisters Maya and Joanna Nakhle and their clients include a long list of royalty (Queen Rania of Jordan has this clutch!), as well as Carine Roitfeld, which in this industry is considered royalty. All of their bags are adorned with semi-precious jewels, like the ebony seen in this bag. I love how it is incorporated into the design rather than it just sitting on top like how most jeweled bags are. I absolutely love this brown python but for those who are squeamish about the natural snake look, it also comes in white, black and orange (how amazing would that be???). They are still small and accommodating so can do custom orders and also very humble because their prices are crazy affordable! This clutch is only $650! Hello, can I get one in every color, please? You don’t even have to be the Queen of Jordan! They have just entered the US market (which means, get this at a bargain while you can) and are available at Tracey Ross in LA, Printemps in Paris, Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong and Podium in Russia (any Russian readers out there?). You can also email them for specific ordering info.

To Louis or not to Louis Part Deux

2nd Update- Oui! To Louis (Vuitton) I go!!! Hello lovelies, I have been invited to the original Louis Vuitton House and Atelier in Asnieres (about 20 mins outside of Paris) for a grand tour of the facilities– (some bags are still being produced here!). This is where the very first trunk, with a flat poplar frame covered in waterproof canvas, was made by Louis Vuitton himself!!! I am most excited because despite what everyone had to say about the brand, Louis Vuitton’s rich history and influence on the global luxury market can not be disputed and it is an honor to receive such an invitation. I will, of course, have lots of photos and give you every detail of the tour. I will be in Paris for two weeks in June so– mark your calendars! (as a side note– I am also invited to the Hermes private museum so this is going to be an amazing trip to say the least!)I think one of the biggest debates here at Bag Snob is Louis Vuitton: to buy it, or not? There are the die hards who will never give up their collection of LV bags and who will buy whatever the brand serves up. The former fans (like myself) who will keep their set of vintage luggage from the ’70s and the LV bags collected throughout the years but will not invest any more time or money on the trendy bags of late. And then there are those who consider its recent collaborations with Marc Jacobs as the whoring out of the classic label and brand. Which one are you? Let me know because I am off to a Blogger Breakfast with Louis Vuitton’s CEO of North America. (Thanks to Lesley of Fashiontribes for the introduction!) I am very interested in what he has to say about the brand and how it will continue its exclusive appeal considering it’s mass global campaign. Stay tuned!UPDATE: Just got back from the breakfast. It was an eye opener to say the least. (Read more after the jump!)I am most impressed with Louis Vuitton’s CEO of North America, Daniel Lalonde and Senior Vice President of Marketing Heather Vandenberghe for taking initiative to reach out to the blogging community. I was impressed, but not surprised. Considering the staggering number of people fashion blogs reach globally, it is a very wise move on their part to begin the dialogue and mutual support with blogs. There were about 15 bloggers present and it was sort of a round table where we each took turns communicating our ideas. We covered so many things in that hour but I will try to recap it for you. First, don’t think LV is not listening to its consumers, both Daniel and Heather read every comment sent to the LV website through customer service (and both will probably read your comments so please keep it constructive). The LV team was most interested in what we had to say about reaching out to consumers via the blogs and want to actively participate in the process. LV sees this as an opportunity to provide us with behind the scenes information on the brand and giving you exclusive stories about the bags.We discussed fake bags and it is still a major concern for them, one that they address aggressively. While you may be tempted by eBay and other unauthorized outlets, the only safe bet to ensure the authenticity of your LV bag is to purchase at an LV boutique.Daniel also explained the recent marketing efforts to bring the brand back to the classic damier and monogram its been known for since 1854. They feel they have had much success with the ‘fashion’ branding through Marc Jacobs in the last ten years but are ready to go back to the basics via the core value campaign and recapturing their former fans.My LV collection consists of classic damier, monogram and Epi leather bags, and the only LV bag that has tempted me of late is the fabulous Mahina in silver. Of course there is also the well worn set of LV luggage given to me years ago, it is still one of the most beloved items in my collection. The three nested suitcases, hat box, and vanity case have treasured memories attached with them that will last beyond my lifetime.I have to admit I am thinking about the Mahina in xs… a lot. It is just the jolt of excitement my old LV collection needs.

Beirn Jenna in Sex and the City

I am so super excited about this bag, not only is it in Sex and the City (I’m going to the premier tonight!!!) and is our ultimate Cheap Thrill of the week, it is one of the most fabulous, lightweight and functional bags I have ever seen. Yes, sure it is simple but that is the beauty of it. It is watersnake with a slight sheen and in this turquoise, it is amazingly chic (it is seen in orange in SATC). You get the exotic look without having to pay a fortune, in fact it is a measly $325!! It comes in 20 different colors but my favorites are this turquoise (which I got) and the natural grey snake (which I am going back to get today because I couldn’t decide yesterday and am now feeling much regret having left it behind). I know watersnake is no python but it is super light and thin, the bag weights 2 oz, no exaggerations. The way it is constructed is incredibly smart and makes up for the thin skin. The handles are not sewn in at the top, it wraps around the entire bag so it is very sturdy. I love the teardrop shape of the bag, it is a good size at 13″ X 17″ so you can fill it up nicely without bulging it. I really can’t get enough of this bag, my girlfriends in the city are all going to Henri Bendel for it today so call them before they sell out, 212.247.1100. You can see all the Beirn bags from this mother-daughter team on their website.

Gerard Darel “24 heurers” Barcelona in Metallic Python

Since I arrived in Paris 10 days ago, I’ve been obsessed with Gerard Darel. I bought this almost the minute I landed. Amidst my dozens of serious bags, the casually hip and slouchy “24 hour” Barcelona in python feels so light and fresh– it is literally the lightest bag I have right now! The python skin is delicious in a metallic gun metal gray (new for Fall) and is so incredibly soft not to mention it curves to the body perfectly (it’s around 14″ wide but slouches and molds to the body so it doesn’t look big on me!). The little ties on the side also may be adjusted, it makes the bag more feminine when tied tightly to create a bigger ruch. There is a Gerard Darel boutique around the corner from where I am staying in Paris and I’ve been stopping by regularly just in case a new bag comes in. I was super excited to find such great bags at low prices although my metallic python will be $3,400 retail when it hits the US, one of the priciest bags in the line. They told me it was the skin and the special way it was treated. So now I am contemplating the ivory with light brown details though I really don’t want to repeat, but the colors are so unique they look completely different. I have another week to decide and may end up grabbing it since it’s nearly impossible to find Gerard Darel stateside for some reason. I asked the boutique manager if she would be willing to ship to my readers and her facial expression was like “Quelle horreur, ship to America? Non!” Oh well, I tried. Those of you living in Europe can hop over to a GD boutique or to a department store to grab one. More photos after the jump!I love how big the scales are, and after a week of abuse (throwing it in taxi cabs and on floors while I’m shopping and running around with my family) it is still pristine with not a curl in sight! There is barely any hardware on this bag, even the bottom is just sumptuous skin. There are also purple, ivory and chocolate versions that are amazing!

Celine “Watch me work” Bag

While Tina is in Europe, I am here in good ‘ole Alabama visiting family. And not in a city or town either, I am on a farm, like there are cows outside my window (and not to get too political on a fashion blog, but there are also Confederate flags everywhere). People here just don’t find anything in my world relevant so I am a bit lost in a foggy state of fashion hell. The only thing I could do to stay sane is shop online, thank god for internet!! So in my quest for civilization, I did come across something good, not blow your savings good but hey, I will settle for good enough at this point. But that is not fair to say because Celine has been climbing the bag designer hierarchy by the season with hip bags like this. Their quality has always been there, they have been around for over 60 years but they are no longer the frumpy house of horse carriage toile and tassels (although I am not opposed to tassels in general). This bag will not impress your trend whore friends but is for you gals who go in the office and show them who’s boss. I am not a lawyer but I do believe this would be perfectly appropriate for court, except you will have an extra bounce in your step showing up with a candy apple red patent leather bag instead of a dull black leather briefcase (but of course not our bag snob lawyers). Celine is staying true to their clientele of professional women but it is refreshing to see them do something that is not only beautifully made but fashionable, as well. There is a flap in the front that opens to a compartment big enough for documents and a center zip compartment in the main cabin that will fit a laptop. The chain is removable. Although I am in love with the red patent, the incredibly beautiful and lush steel grained leather is probably a better choice for serious professionals. This appropriately named “Watch me work” bag is at Net a Porter for $2100.

Hermes Jypsière Messenger Bag

The most exciting bag off the Hermes Fall runway is the Jypsière bag. A perfect balance of the timeless design of the birkin combined with an ultra modern messenger style, I have a feeling it will make a major splash with sporty fashionistas worldwide (I know Kelly is going to flip for it!). It is fashioned after a hunting satchel in which Jean Paul Gaultier describes as “a functional, nonchalant bag slung across the shoulder, combined with the iconic details of the Hermes bags”* As with the birkin and kelly, the straps are best left open so you can lift the flap easily. The strap is adjustable and removeable though this is not something you would want to clutch. It will be available in multiple colors but I love the Graphite and Olive clemence versions best. Both colors are rich and deep, perfect for Fall! The sueded crocodile is also a texture that I am dying to experience, it is so lush! Jypsière in leather 34cm is $6,800 at Hermes boutiques. Call Craig at 214-528-0197 to order. There is also a 37cm for our manbag snobs!*JPG Quote Source Bazaar

Valentino Bow Clutch

Poor Minnie Mouse, her bow was stolen to make this clutch. And what a shame too because it is a sad excuse for a clutch at that. Other than looking like a ridiculous cartoon character, how the heck do you use this thing? Unless you just need to carry scarves with you, what can you possibly fit in there that can crumple in half like that? To make matters worse, I don’t think the center of the bow unravels so you have to get the zipper to unzip under it. And if you think there is some saving grace to this bag, there is not – to add insult to injury, this comes with a shoulder strap so you can really look like a 3 year old with a toy but you pay full adult price at $1095. I truly cannot believe this has a Valentino label on it, it is not only ill-conceived, it is poorly made. It looks like the result of fidgety hands while on a shrinks couch. At Neiman Marcus.

Living Well Magazine- August 2008

To start off your week on the right foot, I give you Smythson’s Ali for the fashionista pragmatist (if those exist). This loosely structured hobo is inspired by Ali McGraw who exudes styles without an ounce of effort. She worked at Harper’s Bazaar and was Diane Vreeland’s assistant at Vogue before becoming a huge star in Love Story. This bag has all the relaxed and simple style she embodies. This picture makes the bag looks strange and zig zagged but it is in fact just a bit slouchy with nubuck sides and a more structured nappa leather center. I love the contrasting textures especially with the lizard clasp! This is definitely your pick-up-and-go bag. No fuss, no muss and waits on your personality to show through without distraction. This will only be available at their boutiques the first week of September (the exotic trim prevents them from selling online) for $1900. Call Antonio at the Two Rodeo boutique, 310 550 1901, he is super sweet and helpful! Also comes in brown.

Marc by Marc Jacobs: Bow Clutch or Mosquito Trap

Kotur clutches- $438, now $175If you’re bored this weekend and looking for some online shopping indulgence, pop over to Vivre and get your hands on some of the fabulous goodies on sale with an additional 25% off! I love thesechic little metallic snakeskin clutches from Fiona Kotur they’re great for night time glamour and also travel well. I am on my way to Philadelphia tomorrow morning and wish I had these to take with me. At $175, you need to get both! Go to Vivre Summer Sale indulgence!

Please excuse our slow posts this week, I am in Philly and Kelly is in Martha’s Vineyard, we usually do not travel at the same time but this was unavoidable! So, after a day of running around Filthadelphia I feel like I am covered in grime (I love this city and enjoy all the fab restaurants but could do with out the soot). Not in a good mood and came back to hotel to do a bit of work and saw this strange critter of a bag. Since a bow bag is useless in itself, MJ decided to add a mosquito net over it so at least it is functional as a bug trap which would be perfect if you were a street vendor in Phnom Penh (I just read an article about a popular Cambodian snack– Fried crickets and fried tarantulas and I am still traumatized). Its only saving grace is it’s fairly cheap but cheap does not chic make in this case. I know the 80s are back and I do recall wearing a hair bow with net a la Madonna but that memory is best left in 8th grade. Marc by Marc Jacobs Bow Clutch 250.

Gherardini Moonsilk Bags

Reporting from Taipei, Taiwan: The latest craze in Asia, especially in Japan, are these Gherardini bags made from an umbrella like material called moonsilk. It is smoother and lighter than nylon (if that’s possible) because it is ultra thin. Gherardini is an Italian line from Florence – the durable, light and functional material is the appeal for the fashion conscious yet pragmatic types. People don’t suffer so much for fashion in this part of the world. There is an all over monogram of sorts, it is the “G” with an elongated stem that makes it look like button mushrooms. People love monograms in Asia, thus the status symbol bags here are LV and Gucci. There are tons of designs, this tote is my favorite but they all have the monogram which is too pervasive to ignore. It also comes in various color options, some strange like a powdery plum pink, others like the light gold is ok but this silver is the best. The silver has metallic gray leather trim that is really beautiful, I just wish there was more of it. The entire bag is incredibly constructed, not a pucker in the seams even though this material is slick and difficult to work with. I could not find an international online boutique that carries this line, they are sold through large department stores and Japan has stand alone boutiques. This tote is around $550.

Jimmy Choo Dylan Beach Bag

I’ve been Christmas shopping all weekend and was just about to take a breather when I saw that Shopbop is offering 20% discount on its new merchandise! As in new Mulberry bags (the Mulberry Bayswater Patent Tote is only $995, take 20% off and it’s a steal you can’t pass up!), the new Givenchy Lace Open Toe Bootie (Sasha emailed me this morning about them and wrote “Shoegasm! It doesn’t stop!”– she is such a bad influence!) and many other Resort items. If you are as sick of looking at Fall sale stuff as I am, this is your chance to buy new season stuff at a discount! now and use code SNOWDAY at checkout for discount. What about you, are you so OVER the Fall sales?

I really hate clear bags, they are not only tacky but I have no desire to let everyone see what I am carrying around with me. Not that I have anything to hide but it is a bit like wearing see-through clothes. But having said that, this one in particular is kinda cool and psychedelic. Maybe it is the 80′s neon that is striking a chord with me, or maybe it’s seeing a beach bag in middle of winter that is making me wanting more! I have recently become a bigger fan of Jimmy Choo, even though the brand is falling out of favor with the die-hard lovers. The shoes are still impossibly uncomfortable but the bag of late are ok with me. Not that I would get this bag, it is super pricey for plastic at $1050 but I’m just saying, if you like these clear bags, this one is one of the better ones. At Net-a-Porter.

Lanvin Jaisal Studded Tote

Studs and chains ruled the runways and realways this season (and will continue for Fall 2009 so it will have a fairly long shelf life!). I adore Lanvin but have been so disappointed by its bags of late. The only one I’d even consider right now is the Jaisal medium studded tote in gray ($2,050). It has just a touch of stud details on each side and does not overwhelm, very important because you’ll still be able to use it long after the stud trend disappears. I am all about the tote lately and this one is as functional as it is cute– 13″wx12″h so I can fit my lap top, magazines and files in it. I am on a plane so often I have to ditch my birkins and start using large shoulder totes for travel. The Lanvin Jaisal is available in multiple colors but trust me, this gray one is the best. Other colors include yellow, patent black leather, or black leather– all in GM ($2,390) or MM. The GM is just too long for me and looks awkward– but will work if you’re like, 5′ 9″ tall and above. Sonia Rykiel Chou-Chou Studded Frame Bag

I had a glass of wine with dinner when I saw this tote online so I waited until this morning to do my review in case I wasn’t seeing or thinking clearly but Dior’s Le Trente Drawstring Tote is interesting and fun to me. Okay, so anything that’s not a complete hideous mess from Dior is a joy to behold so maybe this is why I’m cutting them some slack. The drawstring tote isn’t new to Dior but adding the foldover ruffle around the edges is actually cute and will be great with floaty summer frocks. I don’t even mind the dangling charm though I’d cut it off and hand it to my toddler to play with. I will have to go look at it tomorrow at the Dior boutique to give my final assessment but seriously, A for effort. Size is 16″x12″, Dior Le Trente Drawstring Tote $1,950

This is the Terminator Siamese twin clutches. They are two smaller clutches stuck together to make a bigger circus freak of a bag. Separately, they would make cute clutches or even cuter coin purses but as an ensemble, they should have named it the Koo-Koo bag. I suppose it is different but in a way that is trying so hard that it becomes absurd. Conceptually, the two separate compartments might come in handy, one side for cosmetics and the other for money and cards but that incremental convenience is not worth looking like a fool. At Net-a-Porter for $1530, a high price to pay to be mistaken for a crazy person.

Frugal Snob: Rebecca Minkoff Supernova Hobo

Rebecca Minkoff is is a major Rock Star in the bag world. Known for her urban chic and very affordable bags; Minkoff bags are the preferred arm candy on super models, young actresses and yes, even rock stars themselves. I have my eye on a few of her studded bags this season and I think the winner is the Supernova hobo. First of all, the shape is great for daily use and the shoulder strap is not too long nor too short, it’s sits perfectly on the shoulder and the bag tucks just under your arm. I walked around the store with it and love how it slouches and squishes when it’s full of stuff. The studs are along the sides and bottom of the bag so it’s not very in your face and I’m trying to be cooler than I am. Because honestly, I’m the nerdy chick on the block who rides around on a pink Hello Kitty Beach Cruiser (complete with white leather seat and Kitty treads on the tires). There are three colors available (grape above, almond and black) but I think the purple is the most cheeky and fun. We all need to remember that life (and bags) should be fun! Rebecca Minkoff Supernova Stud Nikki Hobo $650 here.By the way, Rebecca has generously agreed to give away one of her super hot bags on Bag Snob this week. Stay tuned to see how you can win a lovely studded Crush bag!

Chanel Bag with Resin Pearls

The insanely addictive Pop Sugar site is giving away a $3,000 CHANEL bag! To win, enter in the “Pop Sugar 100 list” game and vote for your favorite celebs. Yup, it’s that easy! Go to Pop Sugar and find out how to enter here.Good luck and let me know if you win! I’m entering right now– a bag snob can always use another CHANEL bag

Chanel and pearls go hand in hand like bread and butter but translating the classic look into a bag is no easy task. Pearls are generally too “overdone” to look chic on a bag but this ultra soft lambskin flapbag with black resin pearls is an edgy take on a very classic style! There is another style that I actually like better, it’s a tote style with the same pearls (jump for photo), it looks less fussy without the flap and is also bigger and more functional. Large shoulder bag is 12″x12″/30cmx30cm $3,395 at Bergdorf Goodman, email Eddie Curtis and he’ll hook you up no matter where you live! What do you think of the black resin pearls and gunmetal chain?

YSL Cage Clutch

In love with the YSL caged shoe collection but can’t give up your favorite drink, the extra dirty martini? Yes, I’m speaking of the bloating. Love love the concept but can’t imagine the torture and besides, my feet are way too fat to give the shoe justice. That’s why my love of bags, who cares about the bloated days? The cage clutch will keep its shape no matter what day of month it is. It is made of pretty thick metal caging which accounts for it’s weight and price. The signature YSL clasp is sprinkled with tiny studs for an over the top and edgy feel. You will definitely have a fun and wild night with this baby. At Browns Fashion for $2400. Hmmm, maybe you need to get drunk first before you can carelessly throw that down for a super cool but impractical buy. It is also pretty small, 8 1/2″ x 5″, and obviously has no give.

We actually slip into a coma from bag boredom until the next wave of new bags bring us back to life (so forgive us if we are a bit blah lately). Don’t get me wrong, we love sales– it’s just that we have been staring at the same ole’ same ol’e…. Here are a few Brian Atwood clutches I’ve been looking at all season. The Mattie in white with gold accent is especially appealing. White bags with gold hardware always brings to mind the beaches of Capri where tanned women abound with white dresses and gold bangles. Photo by Mario Testino- courtesy of Carine RoitfeldIt’s fitting that we kick off Fashion Week with an exclusive interview with the most fashionable woman in the world, Carine Roitfeld. You know her as the stylish Editor of Paris Vogue but did you know that it’s her family, not fashion, that rocks her world? Carine is a devoted mother and has been with her partner, Christian Restoin, for 30 years! Her children, Julia and Vladmir, are both studying in the US but she stays close with daily phone calls and taking several vacations with them throughout the year (they just spent the holidays in Australia and they often rent a house in St. Barts for the summer). She is a fiercely loyal and faithful friend and no matter how busy or tired, it is important to her to make time for a quick lunch or coffee with friends because she values the relationships in her life more than the latest “it” bags. She is infatuated with shoes however, and when asked what her favorite shoes are of the moment, she says “YSL” and was seen in the entire collection of killer stilettos last Fall. You won’t ever catch her in flats unless she is on the beach! For looks off the Spring ’07 runway, she says she loves “Prada” and we couldn’t agree more! Although you will not find her cooking on a regular basis with her hectic schedule, she is known to whip up a gourmet feast with friends while on vacation (although in LA, she prefers to dine at Mr. Chows). She’s been called terrifyingly chic, I found her to be terrifyingly nice, she replied to my emails personally from her Blackberry and was very accomodating about scheduling our phone interview. Even though she was in the midst of pre-Fashion Week rush, she took time to answer our questions:Bag Snob: How do you feel about “it” bags being marketed to consumers every season and how do you think it affects the artistic integrity of the designer?Carine Roitfeld: No, I don’t think it affects the designer’s artistic integrity. I am sure designers do not design bags they don’t like.Bag Snob: What was your childhood ambition?Carine Roitfeld: I wanted to be a writer.Bag Snob: What is your favorite memory as a stylist?Carine Roitfeld: Meeting and working with Mario Testino and Tom Ford. (Daughter Julia is currently featured in Ford’s Black Orchid fragrance campaign)Bag Snob: What is your favorite bag?Carine Roitfeld: None. I do not have a favorite bag.Bag Snob: What is your morning routine?:Carine Roitfeld: I start my morning with my Pilates class every day at 8 am.Bag Snob: Best gift you ever received?Carine Roitfeld: The first smiles of my kids when they were babiesBag Snob: Earliest style icons?Carine Roitfeld: I don’t have any.Bag Snob: When did you laugh last?Carine Roitfeld: Watching the movie “Little Miss Sunshine”Bag Snob: What are your beauty secrets to looking so youthful?Carine Roitfeld: Frequent Facial Massages!Bag Snob: Do you have a secret talent?Carine Roitfeld: Yes, I’m a real clown with my kids and make them laugh a lot.Bag Snob: If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt and politics, what would you change?Carine Roitfeld: Less inequality, more justice !(A big thank you to Florence- The Shoe Goddess, my fabulous girlfriend who made the introduction to Carine and this interview possible!)(Photo and content property of Bag Snob and subject to copyright laws.)

Taryn Rose Croc Bag on Melissa George

I went to the Tiffany / Vogue party for the introduction of the new Key Collection. I covered this event on Jewel Snob (yes! we have brought back Jewel Snob and it is all new and super exciting!!). I met Melissa George (Sadie Harris on Grey’s Anatomy and Laura on In Treatment) at the party and she had the most stunning and adorable crocodile bag with ash colored topaz beaded strap. I was totally amazed when she told me it was by Taryn Rose. I only know of Taryn Rose for their sensible comfortable shoes, not their bags! If only their shoes were as cute at this bag, I would be able to walk and look good at the same time!! It is a simple flap bag with no logos or detail other than the strap, which of course makes the bag. I am in the process of contacting Taryn Rose to bring you more information about this bag and possibly an entire bag collection. I will do an update when I find out more!

Hurry on over to Saks my snobs, they just started their summer bag sale! Hundreds of bags have been marked down– our favorite styles from YSL, Bottega, Tod’s, there are so many to choose from! Have fun shopping! Go to Saks Bag Sale here!

Nectar Cell Phone Bag

Private Hermes Collection. Photos courtesy of Katherine L.After all this talk of cheap thrills and $50 bags, I’m starting to feel a bit off. Thank goodness my new friend Katherine saved me with photos of her fabulous collection of Hermes! Get ready to drool my lovelies, Katherine is the proud owner of 74 Hermes bags– mostly birkins and kellys but with a few constance and other styles thrown in. She has the most impressive Hermes collection I have ever seen (and one the largest in the world!) Jump for entire collection!Exotics are a must in any respectable Hermes collection. Drool!!! Needless to say, I am going to plan a play date in her bag closet soon! Check out the ostrich birkins below… amazing! That indigo has my name all over it as does the purple lizard. Swoon!!!! I should show my hubby this collection, he will think I am frugal if he ever saw this!!!

I would like to start out by apologizing for even putting up pictures of these bags on Bag Snob. These Cell Phone bags are for the ultimate phone addict. There is a pocket with a clear touch pad friendly plastic window so that you can see messages and perform simple functions. I’m sorry, if you are this addicted to your phone, you should just not leave the house. And if you care so little about your bags, you might as well just put all your things in a zip lock bag. Even my husband thinks this is lame even though he is surgically attached to his iphone. He raised a good point, how do you hold the bag while you’re using the phone? You have to cradle it in your arms, not exactly convenient if the price you’re paying for that convenience is looking like a fool. They are $250 for the tote and $100 for the clutch, take a look if you want a good laugh.

Nancy Gonzalez Fall 2009 Bags Part Deux

One of the biggest perks of being The Bag Snobs is that we get to shop when we preview bags at showrooms. We order bags for the upcoming seasons and plan our wardrobe accordingly. Of course we have absolutely zero self control and want to buy everything in sight but we’ve come up with a good system for controlling each other. We have a method to our shopping madness and by following our guideline we are able to shop selectively and wisely (cuz there is a no return policy when you order straight from showrooms!). The rock-n-roll fabulous grommet clutch above is one that we both went wild over at the Nancy Gonzalez showroom over Fashion week. Nancy calls it “urban guerilla” chic~ love it! I got the liquid black crocodile and Kelly got the gun metal gray version above. Mine has not arrived yet so I don’t have photos but here are some we took at the showroom. This clutch is truly spectacular– Nancy thinks of everything! A back pocket to hold valet tickets or cell phone, divided interior and a zippered center compartment makes it functional to find everything! The size is really perfect, too– it’s around 12″ wide and 6″ high. It will be available at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. Email Connie to get on the wait list now!!! Nancy Gonazalez bags also available at Saks.(Jump to see more fabulous Fall bags and details of NG sample sale going on today and tomorrow~!)Nancy Gonzalez sample saleApril 29th: 10am – 6pmApril 30th: 10am – 6pm575 Madison Avenue 8th Floor between 56th & 57thI love these shoulder bags with chain detail and outer flap pocket. Nancy abhors hardware but she loves the look of chains and incorporated them into the strap beautifully. The bags now come in a gorgeous sueded python that feels like velvet to the touch but is sturdier than regular python as the scales will not curl. The small shoulder crocodile bag with ring detailed strap in matte grey is $2250.Large shoulder python bag with ring detailed strap in blue/grey matte python$2215

Halle Berry’s Thomas Wylde Santa Cruz

Rachel Bilson and Jessica Alba have both been spotted out and about in the Pringle of Scotland Eel Plissé gray quilted bag (spring/summer 2009 collection). This is a sumptuous utterly covetable bag. I love the slate gray color and the fact that it’s just slightly over-sized. I could totally see this being perfect for traveling or for days when you have about a million things on your to-do list and you need a comfy bag that can hold everything you need without it looking bulky. It’s also low key and sleek in an almost Bottega Veneta-like way (especially given the basket weave detailing). The price, which comes in at slightly over $2,000, is also not bad given that it’s made of plisse eel skin. What do you think of this Pringle of Scotland style? Snob or Slob? For a list of US Pringle of Scotland retailers click here.

Images from Maybe if I was more into cowboy/rocker-chic I would like the Thomas Wylde Santa Cruz, but even gorgeous Halle Berry isn’t making it work for me. The fringe, the braided metal strap (seems like that would hurt your shoulder), the skulls on the side and then to boot crinkly leather — eeck! And with a retail price of nearly $2,000 I think this is a definite slob. Plus, not to get too graphic, but doesn’t it look like the skull is vomiting the fringe!!? That said I do like the general bucket shape and size of the bag. What do you think snob or slob?Thomas Wylde bags are available

Tod’s D-Styling Bauletto

Please forgive me for yet another studded tote. I am truly obsessed and it’s not just because it’s on trend this season. It’s just that someone is pushing 40 and is sorely missing the good ole’ days of the 80′s! Bally‘s studded top handle hobo is an eye catching rock star worthy bag but I do worry about its weight. 36cm is fairly large for a leather tote but add to it a pound or two of studs and I may have to hire someone to carry it for me. I spend a lot of time in private Pilates sessions to undo the damage from my bags and very high heels– now a reasonable and sane woman would just stop carrying heavy bags and wearing stiletto heels but hello– no one has ever called me sane or normal! I guess an alternative would be the Bally zippered tote (I’ll share that later) but it just doesn’t have the same oomph as this one!Bally Studded Top Handle tote is 1,800 euro/ $2,484 usd here.Enough of what I think, what do you think? Snob or Slob?

Before everyone drones on about how this is sooo boring, consider that it is a Tod’s and they are known for the subtle and classic appeal. OK, fine, it is boring. But an immaculately made bag that is timeless and full of function definitely has its merits. And for a lot of women, that what they want, a bag that lasts forever and goes with everything. Well, this surely will and does. I saw this bag at Fall Preview and I instantly fell in love for the color. It is a warm gray, which they are calling Tan, but it is definitely more ashy than fleshy. And the simplicity is kind of mesmerizing, like a Valextra, looking at it puts you in a trance. It is so soothing and nice. Nothing wrong with a bag I’ll use well into grandmotherhood. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1445. Or call my good friend Carla at the Beverly Hills store

Anya Hindmarch “Hector” in Pewter Python

I am back from my Martha’s Vineyard vacation refreshed and uplifted! I missed the Obamas by a day but did see secret service helicopters circling around. While on vacation mode (dressed in bathing suit cover up, summer dress or pajamas the whole time and shopping for lobster chotskies and canvas totes) I was completely removed from anything fashionable and stylish. And that’s a good thing. Gives me perspective! It’s great to fall in love with outrageously pricey impractical bags and shoes because it shows you have passion but when it comes to actual purchases, it’s good to have your head on straight. Like this python tote from Anya Hindmarch, which I saw at Fall Preview earlier this year and after all this time, I am still in lust and it will be a must. It has all the glam you need and want (although in person it is not as shiny as this picture) but the bag is super lightweight and handy as a carry all for everyday life. It is definitely more pewter and less gold than it is showing here, which means, it can go with either! It uses small scale skins and not the belly side, but for the price I can totally live with that. At Anya Hindmarch online for $2645.

Diane Kruger’s 3.1 Phillip Lim Edie Bow Purse

I would so love to raid Diane Kruger’s closet. I absolutely love her edgy-feminine style — even when she’s sporting bags like this 3.1 Phillip Lim Edie Bow Purse ($755, from Lim’s Fall 2009 collection), which is not totally my cup of tea, I think she rocks it. I’m not loving the droopy bow on the bag’s front flap, but I like the detail on the strap and the gold studs which look like small flecks of gold! The purse is a nice complement to Kruger’s conservative dress and flats and the price seems right. Plus couldn’t you totally imagine Edie Sedgwick having worn this purse? Now there’s a style icon! What do you think about the Edie Bow Purse? Snob or Slob?

I really like the Emilio Pucci Bean-shaped hard clutch (left, $1,385), but I can’t look at it without thinking that it’s a knock-off of Elsa Peretti’s bean. I know that similarities like this come up all the time — especially these days when it has almost become all too acceptable for designers to knock each other off — but Peretti’s bean is so iconic and so prevalent that Pucci’s bag almost strikes me as insulting, especially since it’s done in a high-shine metallic. That said the shape is great and given its curvatures it looks like it would be easy to carry despite its hard outer shell. I’m also loving the navy metallic color for fall. What do you think about this Pucci clutch?

Snob File: Donna Karan

I’ve been saving this interview for two weeks, I wanted to feature it while I am actually at the Donna Karan show (which I am right now as you read this)! I was extremely nervous to meet Donna, I mean this is a woman who changed the way women dressed forever with the debut of her namesake line in the late 80s, a modern fashion icon! (When asked why she named it DKNY she said because ‘Donna Karan’ simply sounded too boring and she is from NY, loves NY and it made perfect sense).I’ve been buying her clothes since college, even blowing almost an entire year’s salary on her Fall ’93 collection when I graduated and entered the ‘adult’ world. I still have many of those pieces, and when I described them to Donna in our interview, she knew each one as if she’d just designed them yesterday, not 16 years ago.I was immediately drawn to her warm smile, I was expecting a ‘tough to crack, been there done that’ designer who is wary of the press (as I was wrongly told by an acquaintance). instead, Donna was kind and accommodating, even when the PR person for Neiman Marcus told me my time was up, she continued speaking with me and taking her time to think through her answers thoughtfully. I think you will enjoy this interview as much as I did (after our interview and the fashion show, Donna tailored my dresses for me personally!) Bag Snob: The economy is on everyone’s mind, what are you thoughts?Donna Karan: I think what’s important right now is that the consumer is realizing we are not just getting dressed anymore, we are addressing the issues at hand. That has always been what my role is in fashion. I’ve been a proponent of conscious shopping for years. That’s how 7th on Sale started, how do you buy something and make a difference in this world? I also created Urban zen where philanthropy and commerce come together. Now it’s a larger scale – Fashion and commerce really has to take an understanding of what is philanthropy? It’s unquestionable we can not close down the fashion industry. We must realize “I’m not buying for myself, I’m buying and making a difference in an entire industry.” Imagine all the fabric people, seamstresses, pattern makers who will be affected if we all stopped shopping. How will they provide for their families? It’s no longer just a selfish buy, it’s also a philanthropic buy.Bag Snob: We love that you are so forward thinking in new media– your iPhone app is one of the best from designers.Donna Karan: You know, it’s another way of communicating with our customers, beyond the dressing room. There is so much we want to say to them. What is in our heart? Not just a photo shot in a magazine. There is so much soul behind my garment. When I design something, there is so much thought into it. Take this jacket you’re wearing, it has multiple reasons for being. Multiple applications, day to evening… I put my heart into every single piece.Bag Snob: Let’s talk about your design process, how do you begin a new collection?Donna Karan: First, it’s a mood. What’s talking to me? And it’s very emotional for me, what touches my soul? What do I want to say to my customer? What do I want to live with, what do I want to dance with. Then the thought process happens and the logistics of the actual design. Bag Snob: My very first major purchase after college was a Donna Karan jacket in a navy blue with removable white collars and cuffs during the fall of 1993…Donna Karan: With gold/pearl buttons! Of course. Bag Snob: My gosh, you remember? I loved that collection. I was entering the corporate world and bought almost every piece and still have it all! I loved it, everyone was into grunge at the time, I was 22 and I just wanted to wear proper clothes that fit me well.Donna Karan: How my clothes fit on the body is a dance that I have with the consumer. People say constantly “oh my god you’re so tall and your clothes are for big women”. But look at you, you are tiny and you’re perfect in this top. The fabric and the design of all my clothes are meant to lift you up and make you feel good regardless of you size.Bag Snob: I wore this top with a skirt the other night instead of skinny pants, it looked totally different.Donna Karan: That’s exactly what I aim for, that my customer can buy a piece that has been thoughtfully designed and fits their lifestyle from day to night.Bag Snob: Let’s talk about bags, I love this Gotham tote!Donna Karan: Bags have to be functional! Just like my clothes, it’s not just about beauty. We made these zippers on your Gotham bag thinking about how to make it big or small. And look at these outer pockets, it fits everything.Bag Snob: Yes yes! Fits iPhone, kindle, transformers and sippy cups! I love these outer pockets!Donna Karan: Absolutely, functionality is key. I’m actually a belt bag girl, I’m obsessed with belt bags. I love having everything at my disposal. This Gotham bag is an extension of that, I reach in and grab everything I need.Bag Snob: All of our readers are looking forward to seeing more fabulous bags from Donna Karan. Any last words for them?Donna Karan: Yes, just remember girls. Behind every great man is a great woman. But behind every great woman is a GREAT BAG. Uh, this purple dress will be forever in my collection! Donna personally tailored it on the spot (and we were featured in WWD)! She couldn’t find pins so she knelt down on her knee (I’m not worthy!) and with one quick swoop she tied a knot on the back of the dress which made the skirt narrow and fitted with an additional drape to boot. She then said with a wink “I just saved you $150 in tailoring”. Who would have thought of that!?!? She is a Goddess! She then showed me how the dress would look with shoulder pads (at one point she asked her VP of PR to remove her shoulder pads from her jacket to give me). I knew there was a reason I worshipped her since college!

Hollywood Bag Ladies Shopping Day

Sara Paxton, star of the now defunct CW show “The Beautiful Life” (it was canceled after only two episodes!! — so sad I was actually kind of liking the show), paired her Giles fall 2009 corset mini dress with the Gucci Metallic Mirror clutch. I like the robotic/futuristic feel of the bag which definitely plays into a lot of the trends we saw on the runway for Spring/Summer 2010. The clutch also does a nice job of complementing the stiffness and the bold colors of Paxton’s dress. The classic shape and the fact that it’s monochromatic make this a versatile and easy to match clutch despite the metallic color. I’m a fan and I think Paxton rocked this look (even better than Victoria Beckham I must say who was recently photographed in this Giles dress as well). What do you think of Sara Paxton’s Gucci Metallic Mirror clutch? Snob or Slob?

Rodeo Drive is hosting a special shopping day on Monday October 12 to benefit Lupus LA. Twenty two participating stores will hold special events and giveaways with refreshments and treats (can’t promise anything but Prada had really cute waiters handing out champagne last year). Every participating store is holding a giveaway, for example, Fendi is giving away a $5000 shopping spree!!! A portion of proceeds from the day’s sales will go to Lupus LA for research for a disease that affects 2 million people (mostly women), yet very little is known or done about finding a cure. The day starts with breakfast at Versace at 10am. Olivia Palermo in Chloe Gemma Handbag

Love this look! So many people rag on Olivia Palermo and while I can understand why – based on how she acts on “The City” – I don’t understand those who knock her style. She plays the uptown-chic meets downtown-cool so flawlessly (I mean those Loubies! The Missoni dress! The Chloe bag! To die!), I would almost go so far as to say she’s a mini-Victoria Beckham.Above Palermo is pictured in the Chloe Gemma – gorgeous! I love the color (I think beige and taupe are def the new brown and black), the simplicity of the hardware, and the size and shape are perfect for toting around during the day. What do you think about the Chloe Gemma?

This reminds me of the new Hermes clutch that has the briefcase closure on it. It is so nice!! Except the Hermes is $5500 and this YSL is $1195. Of course it is not the same but it’s the look I’m after, a simple elegant clutch with cool hardware to snazz it up. I mean, this is still YSL so it’s not like I’m making such a huge sacrifice and honestly, I’ve got to start spending less on bags. I know that sounds like blasphemy for the Bag Snob but everything has its limits. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1195.

Vanessa Hudgens in JJ Winters’ Multi Zipper Bag

Did Vanessa Hudgens think that all the zippers on her JJ Winters Multi Zipper Bag ($439) would distract from the fact that she wearing barely — if any — pants? Well, she kind of succeeded actually! There is way too much going on with this bag. It’s like Christian Louboutin’s Pillow Medium Softy Satchel and BCBG’s Urban Rock Zipper Clutch on steroids. The multiple zippers are headache-inducing; I don’t like the contrasting colors and not only does the bag not zip closed, it’s wide open on the top. My vote on this one is a slob. What say you? Snob or Slob?

Sienna Miller’s Mara Carrizo Scalise Heidi R& R

Above Sienna Miller is pictured in the Mara Carrizo Scalise Heidi R& R bag with cone studs ($375 — contact for more info or you can order it online. Available in chocolate brown or black). The bag is perfect for Miller’s Edie Sedgwick-esque style and the price point is spot-on. The leather is soft and has a nice texture to it and I’m liking the slouchy-ness and long strap which give it a vintage feel. That said this is definitely a “young bag” (ie nothing I would want to see my mama in, especially given the way the leather on the flap is cut). What do you think about Sienna Miller’s bag?

This is so silly, I just had to share. I like the strap that’s actually the neck, very realistic! This is a home made crochet turkey bag, if you’ve got some free time waiting for the turkey to cook, this could be a fun craft. I just watch TV and drink like everyone else =) We hope you have a happy, fun and healthy Thanksgiving. Make sure you over eat and take a happy nap!

Beyonce in Botkier Noa Satchel: Snob or Slob

I always wondered what happened to Isabella Fiore’s kitschy (and slightly tacky) bags. It was like they disappeared overnight! I found out they folded a couple of years ago but now a new owner is hoping to relaunch the brand. The bag market is a different place than it was back in 2006, however, and the new owner has adjusted the prices accordingly. Where the handbags once ranged from $695 to $895 at retail, they have been brought them down to $495 to $595. With so many options available now and many talented new designers– I think it will be difficult for Isabella Fiore to capture the market share it once enjoyed. What about you– will you be buying Isabella Fiore once again?Me, I say let a sleeping dog lie.Image via WWD

Above Beyonce is pictured toting around the Botkier Noa East West Satchel ($495). When I first saw the picture my immediate reaction was “Slob,” but figured that it might be her mess of an outfit and over-the-top lips that were swaying me in that direction. Unfortunately when seeing the back minus Beyonce, I still find it slob-worthy. How can a bag that is relatively simple come off as having way too much going on? Between the tassel detail, the logo plate, the leather hanging from the zips, and the removable strap I’m not feeling this bag at all. What do you think about Beyonce’s Botkier? Snob or Slob?

Emmy Rossum Carlos Falchi Ashley Python

Carlos Falchi is making quite the comeback and I’m so happy for him! I went to a personal appearance he did at Bergdorf Goodman a few months ago and chatted with him for a bit and he seemed so genuinely passionate about his work…pretty impressive when you’ve been in the business for as many decades as he has. Just a month or two after his personal appearance I met the designer again at the Target showroom for a preview they did for his collection and he actually remembered me (or at least did a good job pretending!). Needless to say I’ve been keeping an extra close eye on his work since getting some details on the intricate craftsmanship and carefully picked skins that go into his bags. I’m not a fan of the satchel-shape for the most part (always makes me think of school girls!), but the python skin on Emmy Rossum’s makes up for it. Falchi is definitely hit or miss for me. A number of his pieces are wildly tacky and too colorful for my taste, but he hit the mark with this one (Carlos Falchi Ashley Python Satchel, $2,560. Available at Bergdorf Goodman). It’s simple, versatile, easy-to-wear, and definitely something that will hold its own for many years.Have you picked-up any of Carlos Falchi’s designs this year?

Frugal Snob: Olivia Harris Studded Ball Leather Hobo

I’m not into balls and chains on my bags as a rule but on the Olivia Harris Studded Ball Leather Hobo, it works. Joy Gryson keeps it subtle with tiny studded details instead of heavy hardware, it gives the bag a modern edge but doesn’t overwhelm. And hello, how genius is the hidden chain under the shoulder strap! Just peeks out enough to give the bag an extra oomph but not enough that it could be called a Chanel knock off. Made of washed lambskin and so soft and lightweight; Olivia Harris bags are my favorite under $500 bags– I use them when I’m with my son and they’re great for travel with all the multiple pockets. The size is also a major factor for me, at 14″x12″ they are big without being ridiculous. The tassel with logo is removable, by the way, I take mine off because I don’t like dangling things on my bags. But you, you do what you want with it. I’m not judging! Olivia Harris at Saks for $495.00

I went to the Miu Miu store opening last night at South Coast Plaza. It was full of beautiful accessories and beautiful people. It was a great party and everyone was shopping. Or was it just me? The big trend for bags is sequins, you must get a sequined bag if you haven’t done so already and this clutch from Miu Miu is at the top of my list. It is simple and allows the distressed sequins to do all the shouting. I’m not even sure if that’s a proper description but some of the sequins have been flipped the other way so it has a “distressed” look with varying shades of sparkle. Way more more chic than orderly all over sequins. The price is amazing, $995 for a big clutch (comes with a shoulder strap). Call the manager, Janet at 714 617 6927, this store has an exclusive on this clutch for the opening. There are only a few left!

Make-a-Wish Foundation Spring Fashion Event

Every time I want to swear off studs Be&D goes and comes out with a great staple bag like this Be&D Woodstock Leather Hobo ($995) that Whitney Port was spotted in. I like that they opted for grained leather to give some depth and allow the body of the bag to remain simple, but still interesting. Since the stud details are only around the buckle, the bag isn’t as heavy as some of the other larger Be&D bags and its got a top magnetic snap closure which is always an important feature when shopping for an everyday bag. Its also got an interior zip, cell phone pocket, additional pockets, and an interior key ring. I think the price is spot-on, though I was actually expecting it to be a bit more pricey given that the prices of bags of this size that the brand has come out with recently have tended to retail for over $1,000. The Garbo is still my fave Be&D, but for a slightly less pricey and certainly less heavy alternative, this is a great find!

Fashion, flowers and food! Sounds like a perfect day to me =) If you are in the area, join Make-A-Wish Foundation? of Southern Florida on Friday, May 21, 2010 for the Spring Fling & Flower Fashion Show at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Check out the floral creations as well as a runway show to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation?. Tickets are $40 (includes 2 drinks, hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to bid on fabulous auction items). For tickets, click here.

Jil Sander Madame Lizard Shoulder Bag

Jil Sander’s Madame Lizard bag is tricky, an optical illusion if you will. Look at it closely, tell me what you see… don’t go to the site to read the description. First let’s test those pretty eyes of yours. Now, do you see a bag embellished with odd shaped paillettes? Or do you see cut outs on the lovely lizard skin? Jump to read more…….Jil Sander Madame Lizard Shoulder Bag Width 12″ / 30cm $2,445.00If you chose paillettes as I first did, you’d be wrong. The tiny cutouts are so precise and perfectly done that it leads the eyes (at least in photos) to believe that they are sequins of some sort. I was ready to slob this until I took a close look, what a creative way for a brand known for its minimalist values to get fancy with a classic frame bag. And how decadent to cut out expensive lizard skin– I hope they saved the cut outs to put on small leather goods! The more I look at this bag the more I like it, the rosy hued lizard skin is gorgeous with burnished gold hardware. A bag for the modern lady who lunches. What do you think of it? And don’t worry about your precious belonging slipping through the cutouts, the bag comes with its own mini leather coin purse.Jil Sander Madame Lizard Shoulder Bag Width 12″ / 30cm $2,445.00

Versus Mini Shoulder Bag with Safety Pins

Halle Berry is moving on in life and Rebecca Minkoff is moving on from the Morning After bag. Change is good for the soul. For Rebecca Minkoff, change is going to be good for the bank, too. The new bag for Spring, the Easy Rider, is just what a self assured girl needs, a easy hobo that is packed with attitude and personality. This is perfect for a new mom like Halle, the hobo style keeps both hands free and the zipper compartments keeps the mind sane with organization. But what is most important is the timely zipper trims and independent style. The price is easy on the budget for a trendy and fun bag, at Bloomingdales for $550.

I know I am a self professed ’80s freak child and love me lots of chains and studs but I do have my limits and apparently it’s called “Versus”. What the hell is this?!?! Giant, colorful safety pins on a camera bag, so that’s what my bag wardrobe is missing. And do I even need to point out the hideous Medusa heads dangling upside down like little bats?! I detested them in the ’80s, I abhor them now (trying to find different words for ‘hate’, a word I am teaching my child not to use but one I seem to use often). At the risk of being banned from Versace shows forever (would not be so terrible actually)– this is a big huge SLOB. If you are even entertaining this bag, you should seek therapy, asap.Versus Mini Shoulder Bag with Safety Pins for $886.42

Coach x Pierre Le-Tan Collaboration

For a brand that has both mass and niche appeal, I think Coach does a great job of always being innovative–if not kitschy–with such past collaborations with Eugenia Kim, Phillip Lim, Kiki Smith and Lutz & Patmos. To wit, the American leathergoods firm has just launched a beach-themed collection featuring illustrations designed by Pierre Le-Tan (known for his poetic illustrations and use of color) inspired by seaside motifs and details. Limited edition in nature–naturally–the large bucket tote and a sling version have already sold out, but I happen to love the three canvas tote versions as well featuring seahorse, cabana and umbrella motifs. Each features patent leather trim handles (9 1/4″ drop) that accent the tote, while inside there’s one zip pocket, a cell phone pocket and an open turnlock closure to keep your valuables secure. My favorite two are the cabana and umbrella totes because, while they are emblazoned with the Coach name on front, are somewhat more discreet than the seahorse tote. I also love the contrasting tag detail by the straps that feature, for example, a starfish with the beach umbrella. A delightfully whimsical tote for a fun summer outing!$268, available at Coach stores and at Coach Online
