Reese Witherspoon in Alexander Wang Rocco Mini Duffle

Ok Bag Snobs, I know some of you are probably already tired of this bag, but it’s nice to see that Kristin Cavallari and her posse of hard-partying twentysomething-year-olds aren’t the only ones suited to carry Alexander Wang’s Rocco mini duffle bag. Reese Witherspoon rocks this stylish holdall as well as those girls 10 years her junior–and why shouldn’t she? Some of you might disagree with me, but I think the Rocco is on its way to becoming, in many ways, the next generation’s equivalent of the Louis Vuitton Speedy. After all, they share a similar barrel shape and both resemble small, but stylish, gym bags. I think Alex did a great thing with his metal grommets; they’ve quickly become his signature motif on his leathergoods without coming across as kitschy. This bag is both stylish, versatile and durable–not a combination you find with such a cult following. Reese is clearly not the type of woman to treat her bags too preciously and I don’t think she could’ve chosen a more youthful everyday bag. I’ve seen my girl friends beat their Rocco bags around and, much like my Jack Purcell sneakers, the more it gets used (and abused), the better it looks! For those wanting a fresh take on the Rocco, try the maple and smoke colors for an instant update! Available at Kirnazabete for $875 – $965.

Louis Vuitton Resort 2011 Bags

This is a cool little bag for the younger gals who have a bit of attitude in their strut. It seems like a lot is going on but the hardware and the straps all work together nicely. I have always loved Kooba for their sweet style with the bows and all that but this is a good shift into something more spunky. It has the Paddington feel – I’m hoping the look would come back so Tina would stop laughing at me every time I think of bringing that out. The outer pocket is great for the phone and keys, or metro card for city gals. If you have a recent grad to buy a gift for, she will love you if you got this! At Neiman Marcus for $595.

In my opinion, Vuitton had some stellar bags in its resort collection. First up is the addition of a new, and smaller, sized Sofia Coppola-designed SC bag–perfect for the more petite girl who likes the casual, slouchy feel of this special–and might I add expensive–collection. What’s more, Vuitton has introduced two new colors: snow white and tobacco brown. Despite their Hermès-like prices, I’ve nevertheless been a big fan of the bags. They’re subtle, refined and exude Parisian chic. My other favorite pieces were the mother-of-pearl candy-stripe clutches. Aren’t they divine? Super lightweight and lined in suede alcantara. Last but not least are the Monogram Idylle canvas bags. Pretty expected and utilitarian here, but I do think the Pochette Accessories bag in a pink and baby blue version with raffia accents is a nice punctuation piece.

Fendi Fortune Lady Bug Wallet

I was shopping at Saks two weeks ago and the Fendi Fortune Lady Bug Wallet caught my eye. I was indecisive about whether or not to buy it, because I’m not really in the market for a wallet (my mother bought me a Roberta di Camerino wallet for my birthday last month, which she picked-up on a recent trip to Rome. Roberta makes gorgeous over-sized black velvet wallets that can go years before showing any wear!). I went home to look up the wallet online and noticed that it was up on Bluefly, but sold out. Like the diligent shopper I am, I went to the Fendi store the other day and asked why it was already on Bluefly and was told “it’s probably a fake.” Uhhhh…okk….I don’t think that Bluefly has fakes, but alas, I was also told that this was a limited edition for resort 2010 and that the wallet I was holding was their last one so I caved and bought it. When I showed my mother the wallet, her eyes rolled, but I think it’s really cute! Love that it says “Fendi Fortune” and even though I’m not big on the Zucca print, the ladybug makes up for it. What do you think about this wallet? The Fendi Red Zucca Spalmati Ladybug Zip Continental Wallet retails for $445 and in addition to the Ladybug version, there’s one with a Fishbone and one with a Four-Leaf Clover. Check your local department store for availability as stock is dwindling on all three, but Saks, Bloomingdale’s, and Fendi boutiques all stock these wallets.

Lena Erziak “Sean” in Leopard Print Ponyhair

The name sounds strange until you see the bag and then it totally makes sense. Yes, this is in fact inspired by horse and nails. But the origin of the name comes from designer Lindsey Hufnagel’s last name, which in German means horse (Huf) and nail (nagel). So, was she bound to this look with such a name? I don’t know but I like it! The horsebit has been done to exhaustion (Gucci) but here there is a slight twist to it – it is the shoulder strap with some rocker like chains to make it edgy like a futuristic outlaw rather than hoity toity polo player. The super grainy textured leather in military green is the perfect canvas to bring this back into city life (saddle brown would take this straight to tumbleweed town). There is an detachable long shoulder strap to wear this cross body with the chains and horsebit hanging but that look is highly discouraged. At Shopbop for $1280.

This is a bag you make your lifelong friend. It is your signature, the leopard ponyhair that tells others that you are an individual and you are comfortable with yourself. Ponyhair is so great when worn out, it shows such character and style. Our Man Snob Jim has a lovingly worn Prada pony bag that is so incredibly chic because the fallen out hair now create the shape of Africa. Lena Erziak has been a great supporter and sponsor of Bag Snob and I can’t believe it has taken me this long to feature one of their bags. They are well priced and the quality and the details are incredible. The interior has all kind of bells and whistles to make your life easier, like a keyring that you can attach your keychains to. I am really in love with this classic Sean bag, and this leopard is calling out to be mine!! Available at their Ludlow store in NY, call 646 484 5895 or email to purchase, for $858

Chanel Fall 2010 Cocoon Bags

Now that Chanel has permanently added the Cocoon collection to its lineup of bags, they’re finally experimenting with some unique fabrications and color combinations for fall. First up is this STUNNING Coco Cocoon bowling bag: it’s based on the premise of the classic bowler’s shape but fashioned in waxed soft alligator with leather trim and white metal accents. Yes, it’s beyond expensive ($52,260) but oh-so worth it if you have the funds. The second bag I love from the fall collection is the Coco Cocoon handbag in a petrol blue orylag fur with lambskin and white metal accents ($7,295). It’s clearly more fashion-forward than the first bag I highlighted, but I love it for its unique combination and color. Both bags have plenty of room for everything, but what I love most are their big, thick handles that give the bags a casual feel to them–perfect for weekends or as, dare I say, the ultimate gym bag.

Emma Watson’s Valentino Fringed Leather Bucket Bag

The Valentino Fringed Leather Bucket Bag ($3,340) that Emma Watson is sporting may well be one of the most unfortunate fringe and stud-accented bags I’ve ever seen – certainly the most unfortunate one in this price range. As if the stud-finished fringe wasn’t bad enough, there’s a cheapening bow on the strap, but the real clincher is that the fringe is only on one side of the bag. Even though I may not like this style, I’m assuming that if you buy this bag it’s because you like the look of the fringe, so wouldn’t you feel chipped having it only on one side? The bag does have one thing going for it – it’s certainly eye-catching, which isn’t necessarily all that easy for a nearly all-black bag. Whether it’s eye-catching in a good way or bad way however, that’s up for debate. What do you think about this Valentino Bucket Bag? Snob or Slob? Either way, from the looks of it Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri’syounger, “hipper” vision for Valentino seems like it’s here to stay.

Stella McCartney Weekender Bag

Don’t let the name fool you: there isn’t a thing “bitter” about this stylish backpack. As regular Bag Snob readers may know, I’m all about a roomy backpack for fall. I think it’s a stylish complement to casual wardrobe options and a fabulous juxtaposition to a well-cut suit. As Tomas Maier designed this, he clearly thought of luxury and utility as key components. I love the smooth all-around leather of the deconstructed backpack–trimmed ever-so gently with the brand’s trademark intrecciato woven leather along the pocket flaps and lined in cotton. This backpack is also lightweight and has a global appeal to it that’ll resonate with stylish gents from L.A. to London.$2,550,

After two weeks of traveling I can appreciate a bag like this, big but lightweight! The best part is that it can easily be a gym bag when you’re staying put at home. I have been restraining from mentioning that every other bag can work as a mommy bag but clearly this one would be perfect for that, as well. Is it super chic? No, but when you’re tired and making connections all over the world, a doubled leather lined fabulous duffel just seems like your most hated enemy. This is also super easy on your wallet so you won’t have to worry about trashing it. At Browns Fashion for $846.

MCM Nuovo Notte Medium Hobo

If you need to boost your clutch collection and still plan on paying the rent, this Halston Heritage box clutch is exactly what you need. It has faux stingray for added texture and glam, the box clutch is sophisticated and chic but the $195 price tag is what you brag to your accountant about when he/she questions your financial savvy. The simple hardware on this Jet black clutch makes it look way more expensive. It has a magnetic closure, interior pouch pocket and is fully lined. I love the value you get! At Net-a-Porter for $195.

Wow, is this really from MCM, the brand that reigned through the 80s with tacky logos all over its bags? This bag is nothing like I remembered, I would have never considered an MCM bag back then but this, this I can get on board with! It’s designed by Joy Gryson, who was appointed its creative director last year. It’s quite impressive what Joy has done with the aging brand, but then again, she was also the one who helped launch Marc Jacobs bags with the Venetia bag. The double shoulder chain straps dress up the casual textured lambskin bag and gives it an early 80′s easy chic (before Dynasty-mania took over that is). And love that they kept the price under a thousand bucks. Looks like MCM is a brand to watch! MCM Nuovo Notte Medium Hobo for $825

Miu Miu Wool-Crepe Metal Flower Bag

The biggest laughing stock at the Emmy’s was unfortunately, sweet Rita Wilson. But hey, she’s married to one of the wealthiest actors in Hollywood so who’s really laughing? Hopefully, she was just having fun with her Prada dangling jingling ensemble and didn’t really think she was being avant garde and cool. Those shoes look like cheap Princess dress up gear for tots. And don’t even get me started on the dress. Seriously, throw a light bulb in there and she’ll make better ambient lighting than a shining star on the red carpet. What she should have done was complete her look with this chandelier chain mail bag just so we know for sure she is ribbing those oh-too-serious fashion critiques. And no, this bag by itself still cannot be taken seriously. What did I say about Prada sticking to basics? Even conceptually, this is a big slob but the craftsmanship on this is what is really slobbish. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $2100.

Wow, is there any wonder that retailers across America have dropped Miu Miu bags? Sure we could all use a chuckle in the mornings but do you want to be the one laughing, or laughed at?!?! Wait, let me finish giggling… okay, done. To be fair, the overall shape of the bag is cute if not for the fact it’s made of wool crepe (fuzz balls, anyone?) and giant flowers. Make that giant METAL flowers at that, you’d have to be really quirky to pull this off (or underage). Crazy thing is, when I saw this earlier it was still available but in the last few hours it has since SOLD OUT. Who bought it? I’m betting on my friend’s 10 year old tween snob.Miu Miu Wool-Crepe Metal Flower Bag for $1,695

Dior Delices Clutch

I’m almost insulted by the lack of good diaper bags out there– just because we have diapers to change and are running on 3 hours ofsleep a night it doesn’t mean we’ve lost our sense of style! Our readers are constantly asking us to suggest a hip and cool diaper bag but we’ve never been able to find one (until now). Of course it took Rebecca Minkoff to come out with a diaper bag that even urban chic moms can tote with pride. Not only is this a trendy and fun diaper bag, it’s also very functional. Aside from the obvious (spill proof nylon, diaper changing pad, and multiple pockets for bottles, diapers, etc) her signature fringe details that will come in handy when the baby is fussy and wants to pull on something (my son loved pulling on things, they have actual toys that serve this sole purpose). Rebecca Minkoff Zipper Baby Bag here for $395.

A simple yet roomy clutch goes a long way in making an outfit complete. When Natalie Portman arrived on the red carpet for her “Black Swan” premiere in Venice, Italy, last week, I immediately took note of her evening bag. It wasn’t one of those jeweled minaudieres or steel box clutches with no personality; rather, Portman chose a cozy, not to mention roomy, Dior Delices clutch in white. Also available in grey and coral, the roomy evening bag, made of Gaufre cannage lambskin, has a satin lining and boasts a whimsical lambskin rose appliqué in front. The pad-like fa?ade of the clutch is both soft and dreamy looking; doesn’t it make you want to take a nap? Delices loosely translates to “delights.” Fitting, if you ask me.$1,400, available at Dior boutiques

Samaire Armstrong in ROMYGOLD Racquel Clutch

Now that New York Fashion Week is sadly over, many are preparing for London, Milan and Paris shows. We will not be heading to Europe this season but have put together a fashion week survival list for those who are (or who wish they were!)1. Stella McCartney Python Print Tote: You never know when rain showers will assault you in London, better bring along a bag that can withstand the beating.2. Nancy Gonzalez Computer case: Hello, I don’t care what anyone says, blogging on your iPhone 4 or iPad is just not the same as your MacBook. Keep yours in chic style with a croc case from Nancy Gonzalez.3. Alexander McQueen Faithful: I know you packed 5 pairs of black pants and 3 black dresses, add a pop of color with McQueen’s Faithful satchel in cherry red.For more Fashion Week Picks, check out the Bag Snob page

Isn’t thisROMYGOLD Racquel Clutch ($385) that Samaire Armstrong is sporting adorable? It’s young, fun, and goes perfectly with the actress’ (most probably remember her from “The OC”), flirty, floral summer dress. Aside from being a well-priced find, the pebbled leather clutch also has conveniently got a zip pocket (a plus for those like me who prefer keeping credit cards separate from cash), and a magnetic closure.Do you like this clutch as much as I do?

Emmy Rossum in Cleobella Mexicana Clutch

The Cleobella Mexicana Clutch that Emmy Rossum was spotted in isn’t my personal style. I’ve never been one to go for cut-out detailing when it comes to handbags, at least not of the ornate kind. I can however appreciate the work and detail that went into this handcrafted piece and if this style is up your alley, it’s hard to argue with the $160 price tag! The clutch comes in a slew of colors and is in line with the Cleobella aesthetic, which has been embraced by celebs from Fergie to Jessica Alba. Check-out and shop the collection here!

Two More Days to Enter Barneys New York Seven Bag Giveaway

I love the new direction Lanvin bags are going. Alber Elbaz knows how to stay ahead of the game and when he realizes he needs to make a sharp left, he knows exactly what is around the corner. Gone are the sweet grosgrain ribbons, frills and ultra classic flaps and quilts. But not the ladylike chic. That is, after all, the life force of Lanvin. This slightly ruched frame has a little bit rugged vibe with the pebbled leather and puffy shape, but the basic frame and the delicate clasp keep it true to Lanvin’s vision. There are 2 outer pockets with magnetic closures, this is what gives the bag the expanded girth. Gorgeous!! At Barneys New York for $2195.

If you haven’t heard, or haven’t gotten around to entering this Barneys giveaway, you must do it now! Seven of the hottest bags in fashion history – Valextra, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Celine, Lanvin, Proenza Schouler and Nina Ricci. These are the bags you want and they can all be yours. I don’t even know how to process how awesome that would be to have all 7 of these bags, all at once!! Last day to enter is September 29 at 12 Midnight PST. There are also 2 runner up prizes! Go enter now! I already did, finally a giveaway I am eligible for =)

Tod’s Spring 2011

First, some excellent news to share with Bag Snob followers: Derek Lam has renewed his contract with Tod’s and will remain creative director for two more years! He’s got a lot planned up his well rolled sleeves, so I eagerly anticipate more great news to come. Hooray! For the brand’s spring presentation over the weekend, Tod’s chief Diego Della Valle chose to, for a second season, show at the Milanese manor Villa Necchi (where Tilda Swinton so famously filmed her brilliant film “I Am Love”). For spring, Lam channeled the ideals of Mediterranean luxury. The collection, as in past seasons, shines the spotlight on Tod’s exquisite use of textures and skins, from simple vachetta leather to rich crocodile and python–all in delicious shades and nuances. The two key styles for spring are the “24H” and “Shirt” bags. The former, according to Lam, is all about “chic practicality.” It’s a stunningly versatile and beautiful structured soft tote that’s purposefully designed with no hardware and, in my opinion, really harks back to the Tod’s leathergoods roots. “I desire luxury but I have no need for status symbols,” Lam told WWD.The latter’s deconstructed shape in super soft supple leather with a coulisse closure that makes it effortlessly lightweight; its versatile form allows it to be folded and unfold for travel ease.

Hermès Spring 2011

Let’s just say Christophe Lemaire has A LOT to live up to. The newly-appointed Hermès designer succeeds Jean Paul Gaultier, whose last show on Tuesday was pure magic, and I, for one, will be scrutinizing the accessories he develops under his much younger watch. He’s a deejay, so perhaps a flat Birkin to hold records or a spin table? A guy can dream. But I digress. For a swan song, Gaultier could not have executed a more seamless and natural evolution of the Hermès brand when it came to the handbags. They were all there: the Suri Cruise-approved mini Birkin, the “sheer” Kelly (with a mini Birkin sitting inside), the wicker Kelly (OMG moment here) and how about the Kelly-inspired belt bag AND bustier! BUSTIER! It’s gonna take some guts to wear that last piece, but it’s definitely doable–and, trust me, it’ll sell out for sure.I am in love with the wicker Kelly. I love it in the black leather; the contrast of colors is simply gorgeous and it’s also very structured and rigid thanks to the nature of the material. If I had the chops, and a couple thousand extra dollars, I’d seriously consider the belt bag. I think it’s very chic and refined–and discreet; not only is it completely wearable but it screams “collectors item!” Lastly, I’m very curious to hear from Hermès what exactly that “sheer” Kelly is made of. A follow-up report to come following a showroom visit.

Sasha’s New Obsession: Celine Luggage Tote

Guest Blog by Sasha Charnin Morrison, Fashion Director of Us Magazine and Author of “Secrets of Stylists”There are very few designers that make me completely insane in the membrane. Tina had to talk me down off the Barneys roof when I became semi fashion suicidal over a Givenchy studded satchel. I had just celebrated a recent acquisition of a black Happy Lanvin Bag from my pal, Richard Erani’s store Chuckies on 3rd Avenue In Manhattan (if you don’t know Richard, you aren’t experienced. He sells Lanvin, Stella, Miu Miu, YSL, Prada, Tory Burch…etc and buys it differently so you will see exclusive colors of a YSL Tribute there and a different Miu Miu color there. Madison Avenue (347) 453-0094, 3rd Avenue (212-593-9898) and King’s Highway Brooklyn-yes!- (718) 376-1003.) But because I am a bag and designer label WHORE this simply wasn’t enough. My BFF Caryn kept talking over and over about the Celine Boston bag. And I had my eye on that when I had been out shooting in LA for Us Weekly as a few people on the crew had the bag.It wasn’t till the other night when we went to Bergdorf Goodman In NY and we saw the Orange Boston that I really started to lose my shit. It was one of those moments when you start to calculate in your mind and choose which credit card to split the cost on so the blow isn’t too extreme. It didn’t help that the store made me manic when the sales girl said to me the magic words ” “there are only two left in this color.” AND THAT WAS IT. My friend Caryn on the other hand wanted the same bag-but in brown or tan. She called around the country and finally got someone on the phone at Celine in Florida. Actually Tina thanks for posting the number on the site because that’s who Caryn called. Anywhoo-the Leopard version is BEYOND sick and would never kick that out of bed but this Orange, Hermes like, grainy leather made my eyes pop out of the sockets.

Mulberry Bayswater Python Bag

“I love goooooold.” Ah yes. Quoting the always classy Johann van der Smut from “Austin Powers in Goldmember.” That has pretty much been what I have been saying every single time I look at this bag, which might I add is every five seconds.Mulberry literally read my mind when they made the Bayswater bag for this season in metallic gold python. Making a gold bag classy can be particularly difficult. I mean, remember the Louis Vuitton Miroir Alma GM circa 2006 Kim Kardashian was spotted carrying when she was just BFF’s with Paris Hilton? Yeah, yikes is right.Clearly Mulberry does a much better job at classy than Vuitton does, so I am not surprised. Though I wouldn’t recommend wearing this bag with a sequin dress on New Year’s Eve, I would think this bag would be a great statement piece to wear with neutrals. Or you might just have to wear the bag and only the bag if you buy it. At $4,000, it isn’t exactly the top of my Holiday Wish List. Well, it is, but everyone just laughs at me.

Foley + Corinna Mongolian Lamb Small Square Bag

The Tory Burch Foundation provides economic opportunities to women and their families in the United States. The foundation provides financing to micro-entrepreneurs who are trying desperately to get out of poverty by creating a sustainable business to support their families. Most of these women are working mothers, and I can understand as a working mother how difficult the endeavor is even with financial security, that is why we must and should, wholeheartedly support the Tory Burch Foundation. All you have to do to support this cause is shop from the Tory Burch Foundation collection. You already love her great fun designs, so why not do it with a purpose? Her special sunflower design for this collection is sentimental – her father gave her a pendent with this design on it and it represents the inter-generational support and love that are emblematic of Tory’s mission through her Foundation’s work.Learn more.

Did you say Mongolian lambswool? Why, yes, please. This pebbled leather cross-body Foley + Corinna bag is fabulous, yet functional. With a Mongolian lambswool panel in front and a tassel pull combined with a short handle as well as a longer crossbody strap, this bag gives you versatility and fun. That is of course, if lambswool is your thing. This bag is more laid back than night-on-the-town chic, but I still love it. It’s large enough for your day needs but isn’t too big so to look strange carrying it as a handbag. However, it could possibly be mistaken for a small dog. Seriously.Lambswool for fall/winter is a win for me. Soft, eye-catching, cozy and fun, the panel on front seals the deal. I love the off-white color as well. Combine this bag with some tall boots and a leather jacket and voila! It’s winter. Instantly making me want to cuddle up with my Mongolian Lambswool lover and cup of hot cocoa.Foley + Corinna Mongolian Lamb Small Square Bag available for $495.00

Gucci Marrakech Shoulder Flap Bag

(Photo courtesy of Barneys New York Dallas, thanks Nina!)I loved this bag at first sight and loved it even more when I heard the name. Givenchy’s Nightingale is nothing short of fabulous. The dark silver metallic ostrich leg handle lends a modern twist to an otherwise classic shape and very simple bag. I played around with it and it was really light which makes it a great everyday bag to knock around in. It is one of those bags that will go with everything so you don’t have to think much about it. Dress it down or glam it up, you’ll look chic no matter what you wear it with. Can I say again how much I love the metallic python detail? It’s subtle enough that you won’t look like a Vegas showgirl but substantial enough to stand out. And the price is not bad for an exotic $1,895 at Barneys New York. Call 469.221.4725 to purchase!

I am simply pointing out the improved collection from Gucci. Would I buy this? Probably not, but that’s because this look is not me, but if I had to be objective, I deem this bag to be pretty great. I love the fact that it maintains the Gucci look without going overboard with G’s and there is absolutely no bamboo anywhere on the bag!! I love the braiding trim that goes all the way around the flap. I also love the pocket that’s under the flap for quick access to essentials but still protected with a closure. This shoulder is your everyday bag with signatures of Gucci with the tassle and G’s on the tassle ornament for a sophisticated look that’s elegant and subtle. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $2190.

I have a problem with this bag. It’s trying too hard. An old fashioned classic bag covered in studs does not render it cool and hip, it is still an old fashioned classic bag. Not that it’s a bad thing– you know how I adore timeless bag designs. But that’s not to say I don’t enjoy a shot of trendiness here and there but overkill of a single trend is no good! This lady like shoulder bag would have been better served had the studs been kept at a minimum, ie on the straps or a row along the flap. Less is more my dear Valentino. $2,295.00 at Bergdorf Goodman

San Francisco: Secrets of the CHANEL Handbag

Hey San Francisco snobs, if you are out shopping this weekend, you must stop by the CHANEL boutique for the “Secrets of the CHANEL Handbag” event. It’s a really special exhibit and it gives you the opportunity to see how the CHANEL handbag is made. Plus you’ll learn about all the little secrets of Mademoiselle Chanel’s handbag! Did you know the 2.55 was inspired by military bags and Mademoiselle Chanel’s hanging binoculars?!?!! She wanted her hands free from cumbersome handbags so she could roam about at the horse races. The 2.55 CHANEL bag has no more than 7 pockets, including the back pocket dubbed “Mona Lisa Smile” and the hidden flap pocket for money and love notes. And do you know why the interior is burgundy? It was in memory of her orphan’s uniform when she was young. The iconic CHANEL quilting? Inspired by the young boys who worked at the racecourses! Find out more fun secrets at the event this weekend.Secrets of the CHANEL Handbag November 13 – 14, 2010CHANEL San Francisco135 Maiden Lane

Alexander Mcqueen Samurai Print Canvas Tote

I don’t like this bag. Nope. I said it, I don’t. I did try to, but it just didn’t happen.Alexander McQueen Samurai Print Canvas Tote is obviously a creative and interestingprint, but as a whole I think this bag falls flat. The dress in this print is much more realistic and interesting. It is sexy in a very uniqueway and I think, worn with the right accessories, could work. The bag, however, I think is a long shot. I just don’t see myself getting much use outof it to justify its $925 dollar price tag. I mean, how many times have you said toyourself, “You know what would go great with this outfit? My Samurai bag.” Actually, that sounds awesome, but I still don’t think I would wear the bag much. Also, it’s canvas, which is another reason I cannot justify its price tag. I like the idea ofthis bag, but as usual, dreams fall short of reality.Pick up the Samurai bag at Saks for $925.

Oh Alber, how I adore thee. You take a classic hobo shape and update it with a thoroughly feminine yet modern twist. Do not think this is an average suede bag– look closely, do you see what I mean? No? Look even closer, the top is trimmed in gorgeous grosgrain ribbon. I saw it at Barneys and made my girlfriend buy it immediately (friends who shops with me invariably buy a bag, or two, or three). Made of a delectable caramel hued suede, this is a well thought out and executed bag in both form and function (I LOVE that Lanvin bags continually improve with time!). Carrying the Cabeceo hobo is like walking around with a soft and plushy pillow, comfy and stylish (the flat shoulder strap fits securely on the shoulder by the way, you won’t be shifting it around all day long). There is also a black version but only this buttery shade will do for me. Looking at this actually makes me want to drink hot apple cider while strolling through central park– which I’ll be doing tomorrow in NYC! Lanvin Cabeceo GM Hobo for $1,380

Jimmy Choo Bali woven raffia hobo bag: Vacation, anyone

It’s no secret that I adore hobos, and this one is nestling into a special place in my heart. A place where I dream of wearing it with a pretty little white sundress on a hot day, somewhere near the ocean skipping around, eating a strawberry ice cream cone. Or on a cool fall day with a pair of knee high black boots, tights and this.Traditionally, woven bags like this are too summery- looking to wear in colder months, but the Jimmy Choo Bali woven Raffia Hobo bag has adorable black leather buckle details and gold hardware which gives this light bag a bit of a darker edge. This is such a classy looking bag I would wear it year round.Still, it does remind me of summer and makes me want to take a trip far away to sit on a beach and build the tallest sandcastle ever. Then admire it triumphantly while sipping a soda to later have a drunk guy knock it over.*Based on actual events.Want to take a vacation? Pick this beauty up at Net-A-Porter for $995.

Valentino Rockstud Leather Shoulder Bag

So I live in Austin. And there’s a little college here in town by the name of the University of Texas. UT, if you will. The school’s colors are orange and white. You probably have never heard of it, it’s a small school. Anyhoo, I did not go to this school, however, whenever I look at this bag, I cannot help but see an orange sparkly “UT” on the front of this Marni bag.Embellished with sequins and beads, this frame bag is silk with a leather strap. I love anything sparkly, which is why this bag immediately caught my eye. But just like one of those Magic Eye pictures, or the illusion of the vase and the people kissing, once I saw the “UT” I could not stop seeing it, which makes this a really expensive college football accessory. At Net-a-Porter for $1260

This is Valentino’s big new bag, not big as in size but big as in their push to have an iconic piece.  All I can think of is what late adopters they are to the stud trend.  It’s like when your mother gets on a trend you know it is way past it’s prime.  It’s the same feeling young folk have about their parents on Facebook.  There is also another notable oddity, this is kinda just half a bag, the straps attach to a longer back side and the opening reminds me of a Murphy bed.  It’s more of an insert for a much larger bag as perhaps, a filing system.  I suppose the studs can easily be removed going forward but the design leaves me feeling empty and incomplete.  But Valentino does have an older clientele (Rolling Stones fans who appreciate the has-been rocker look) so this might be a hit for them!  At Saks Fifth Avenue for $1595 for the leather.  Available in a big assortment of colors and skins.

Yves Saint-Laurent Woody Washed Multy Shoulder Bag: Handbag Candy

This, my friends is handbag candy; Juicy, delicious blueberry candy. The Yves Saint-Laurent woody washed multy shoulder bag is simple, supple and perfect for day wear. Yes, it’s $1862.50, but hey, tis the season to spend money on girls like Emma, no?This bag is definitely a head turner, especially if you opt for the bright blue (over the soft black it also comes in). But, if I am being totally honest with myself, which I usually am, because when I’m not, I end up doing something stupid, like the time I bought  snowshoes, or thought I would look like Heidi Klum if I cut myself bangs. Anyway, if I am being honest with myself, I could not bring myself to spend almost 2G’s on this bag. It is totally functional, cute and I bet I would wear it a ton, but that is a lot of money for a simple leather shoulder bag. That being said, anyone reading this is welcome to buy it for me. I mean, it would be an amazing gift because that’s what gifts are supposed to be- things you wouldn’t buy for yourself, right?I dub this bag a great gift. Something a sensible woman wouldn’t say she needed because she probably has a million bags she can get the same wear and function out of and because of its large price tag, but one she wants because of its abnormal fabulous color and great shape. Therefore Santa, I’d buy them out of these bad boys.Pick it up at luisaviaroma for, again, $1862.50

Blake Lively x Cartier Classic Feminine Bag

Is it bad that I had to sing the Fergie song to spell that correctly or is it bad that I want to wear this tote with high gloves and a big hat and speak in a British accent? I don’t know why, just go with it. This tote is glorious. I have always, always been a sucker for black and white. My prom dress at age 16 was simple, long black with a white stripe on top. When I’m in doubt, I go for my favorite black and white combo for an interview. This bag is no exception to my obsession. The beaded flower brooch set on the perfect ivory patent leather is so simple and easy and oh, so, glam. I picture myself toting this bag away while wearing this shirt dress and some tights with tall boots while shopping for Christmas gifts and sipping hot chocolate and snacking on Junior Mints that I have stashed in said tote.I love the old school feel to this bag. Back when hair poof’s were glam (Breakfast @ Tiffany’s style) and things were classy.Pick it up at Neiman Marcus for $1,595.00.

Tiffany’s isn’t the only jeweler that’s getting some TV time, courtesy “Gossip Girl.” Blake Lively was recently seen toting around Cartier’s new Classic Feminine handbag. A limited edition version of a new style introduced into the Cartier leathergoods range, Blake’s sporting the large zebra furry calfskin model, with a flap in brown ebony calfskin and elaphe. A quick look and it’s a simplistic style: a top handle with a removable shoulder strap make it versatile, while a flat pocket in the back allows for quick storage. To protect its fa?ade, four square metallic studs serve as feet. Inside, it’s plenty roomy: one large protective flap with two closure magnets, two inside compartments, one central zipped pocket and one large cell phone pocket, natch. Overall, it’s a subtle, classic bag that sits on the fence between boring and eye-catching. Either way, it’s the perfect complement to Serena van der Woodsen.$2,400, available at select Cartier boutiques

Judith Leiber Panda Crystal-Embellished Clutch

……………….Uh… huh…I know, I know, I know, panda bears are cute. Pandas in sparkle tuxes are even cuter. All sweet and crystal and huggable, he is just begging for someone to take him home…That being said, I can think of only one instance as to when I would carry this; I was six, I had a very important date with my imaginary boyfriend Henry Pineapple (I seriously told my friends that name) and that jerk stood me up. This would have gone perfect with my pink sparkle jelly shoes, giant purple plastic glasses with no lenses and the pink My Little Pony sweat shirt I rocked every chance I $4,695Judith Leiber is a genius with creativity and design. There is the zebra bag (not print, the animal) the tiger bag, the elephant clutch, the dachshund clutch, and the list goes on and on. My question is; who seriously buys these animal shaped things for that kind of money, and where in the world do you wear them besides to your child’s tea party and maybe the zoo? I mean come on. I can’t imagine saying “Oh would you hold my panda for a second? I have to fix my hair.” Or “reach into my panda, my credit card should be in there, look in his belly.”Also, a lot of these bags are so small they can barely fit a phone in them. That makes them arm ornaments, and that is one pricey ornament. He may be cute in his little suit asking you to take him home, but if you want cute, buy a kitten. You want a bag, don’t buy a panda.

Marni Large Suede Satchel

White suede, oversized pockets, twist-lock fastenings, optional crossbody strap; need I say more? The Marni Large Suede Satchel is fantastic. It is chic, summery looking and with its large size, is super functional.I love bags that are simple, yet classy because I always get so much wear out of them. They are perfect for a day out running errands, or even a day date to a museum followed by 3 scoops of ice cream and window shopping (my favorite past-time). The pockets on and in this bag are really handy. I like lots of compartments to organize all of my important things like phone, wallet, keys and fruit snacks. It’s important to keep a nutritional supplement in your bag for marathon mall days. I have ever since the day I literally almost passed out in a dressing room when my friend whipped out a fiber one bar from her side purse pocket and saved my life. This bag is easy to pull off, handy and is fabulously simple and can be yours at Net-a-Porter for $1,470.

Sometimes I really think I need a really chic burlap sack. And then I think, Aw man! There are no chic burlap sacks. And then, alas, Marni gives us this linen tote that looks like a burlap sack. And then I wake up and realize no one in the entire universe would call a burlap sack chic, nor would they want to carry a burlap sack. Unless they are an actual farmer. Or whoever else carries burlap bags. You know who doesn’t carry burlap bags? The readers of BagSnob. It is described as the “perfect city carryall.” Sure, if your city is a farming city. And you’re a farmer. If you are a farmer, go ahead and snag this bag before it sells out. It’s only $525.

Louis Vuitton Cuir Art Deco Bag

While Louis Vuitton’s spring bag collection comprises five different lines, it’s the Cuir Art Deco line that figures most prominently in the ad campaign shot by Steven Meisel. Considering the maximalist Oriental adventure Marc Jacobs took us on at Vuitton, these bags are relatively tame. These shoulder bags are a tribute to the Art Deco movement, one of the key inspirations of the show, and while they look great when styled with the complete runway looks, separate they’re a bit boring. As of late Vuitton has been moving away from slapping its Monogram on everything and introducing more exclusive, and horribly expensive, bags that are produced in smaller numbers for a more select clientele. This bag appeals to a discreet luxury client that isn’t fashion forward and prefers stable, elegant pieces. Think of it as the Lexus of status bags. While these bags don’t appeal to me, hopefully it’ll take the cash-cow company back on a more exclusive trajectory.$3,270, available at select Louis Vuitton boutiques

Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2011

The Falabella tote has been reincarnated in a major way for pre-fall/fall. Vertical continues to be the overall silhouette, with the trademark chain strap handles and chain trim. But while past Falabellas have tended toward being that carry-all, these newer shapes are a bit smaller in size and more geared for going out for dinner with girlfriends or weekends gallery hopping. In addition to the Falabellas, Stella also debuted a new line of suede bags and clutches that are one-part boho chic, one-part modern chic. In colors like grey, saffron and brown, the structured pieces feature more ladylike details like brass closures, straps attached to ringlets and dainty Stella logo charm. For a bit more nighttime fun, try the color block Plexi clutches with their gold framed details or a decadent box clutch minaudiere made of, in the spirit of Stella, recycled shell and brass.
