Salvatore Ferragamo Python “Ember” Clutch: Hot Embers

How cool is the “Ember” clutch from Salvatore Ferragamo’s Fall 2011 runway collection? A showing of strictly black, white, and shades of gray – laden with checks, magnified houndstooth, and pinstripes – has never looked so good. And the bags are just as strong as the high-power suits. Not only is the design of this clutch sleek and modern, the Prince-of-Wales-checked python skin (from wild or farmed python, depending on the season) is utterly innovative. When I first spotted this bag, I was perplexed by the glossy, graphic texture – I asked my sales assistant a whole lot of questions because I love discovering new ways of using python skins! It’s been chrome tanned and set with an aniline finish, giving it that mysteriously luxe, high-shine quality. Trimmed with Ferragamo’s signature palladio hardware (notice the brilliant asymmetry of the tips), this envelope is a minimal silhouette with maximum style. Take a cue from the runway show: wear it with classic red nails and double – or triple! – up on your colorless houndstooth.
